One of the most intriguing games to be played in Kentucky tonight will be staged at Logan County High School where the two teams have a combined record of 10-1.

The Cougars (6-0) will play host to Bowling Green (4-1) in a game that will probably start about 7:30, since the opening contest is a junior varsity game rather than one for the Lady Cougars.

First year Cougar coach John Tinsley has his team playing well. They actually lost on the scoreboard in their opener to visiting Clarksville Academy by a 59-49 count, but now the score is officially 2-0 Logan because an Academy player was later ruled ineligible.

Since then the Cougars have won five straight easily with an average margin of victory of 19.4 points per game. The closest has been 12 over a Monroe County team which is now 6-2. In their last outing they beat South Warren 68-53 Saturday.

Coach Derrick Club’s Purples were undefeated until Saturday when they lost 64-60 at McCracken County. BGH beat South Warren 73-68 a week after the Spartans won the Class 5A state championship in football.

Coach Tinsley is not reporting individual statistics to the KHSAA or to The LoJo. Any reports that have gone to the state include only team shooting percentages.

Kelby Epley, Third Bell and Tommy Krohn—who all started many of the game’s last year—are key players. Key 2018 reserve Reggie Powell is also back.

Sophomore Anthony Woodard, who was a starter last year for Russellville, is a Cougar now.

Also playing in that closest win against Monroe were Dylan Basham, Maurice Gordon, Brady Griggs, Jay Hardison, Landon Larson, Dalton Thompson, Nathaniel Vick and Blake Wood. Devon Carter saw action in the win over South Warren.

At least two of the Purples have Logan County bloodlines. Sophomore Isaiah Mason, who scores in double figures regularly, is the son of Montez Mason, who was a standout senior on Coach Dick Webb’s Cougar regional finalist squad in 1993. Sophomore Dezmond Wade is the son of LCHS alumni De Wilson and Sue Miller. De Wilson was quarterback of Coach Les May’s Cougars in the late 90s, the leader of the A’Town Posse from Adairville that included Hall of Famer Joseph Jefferson. Sue and De’s older son, Deangelo Wilson, was a key player on Bowling Green’s state champion basketball team two years ago and now is a standout receiver for Austin Peay football.

The game will be aired on WRUS radio, which can be heard on 94.1 FM, 610 AM, wrusradio.com, and the station’s app.
