Babe Ruth Baseball begins

Three days after the high school baseball season ended, Babe Ruth Baseball began banging balls with bats. H& H Sheet Metal and Pratt Auto/Sonic Drive won the first games played at the Logan County High School Field on Friday, June 4.

Travis Kennedy pitched a 7-0 shutout for H&H in the opener against Logan Telephone/Farm Bureau of Elkton. He gave up 4 each of hits and walks while striking out 5. His catcher, Dustin Cartas, who is the cleanup hitter for the Logan County Cougars, went on a power surge. He hit a pair of home runs (one over the centerfield fence), doubled twice, got 3 RBIs and scored 4 runs. Kennedy helped his own cause with 2 each of hits and RBIs. William Fox and Jake Lanthreth each singled, and Fox had an RBI. Cobey Bicksler also scored.

Also on the H&H roster are George Collins Jr., Drew Farlow, Cole Hyde, Chris Powell and Cole Rogers. Coaches are Brian Kennedy, Michael Cartas and Robbie Powell.

Corey Wright had 2 singles and a double for LoganTelephone/Farm Bureau of Elkton. Blake Pittman singled. The team's starting pitcher, Crewsdon Kemp, worked the first three innings. Wright, who had pitched for the Russellville Panthers in the regional semifinals three days earlier, pitched two innings, striking out 4 among his 6 outs. Cole Aquire worked the final inning.

Other players for Logan Telephone/Farm Bureau of Elkton are Aaron Baldwin, Tucker Baldwin, Wesley Estes, Zane Hadden, Wesley Hughes, Ezra Robbins, Aaron Taylor and Ben Wright. Coaches are Bryan Estes and Jay Wright.
In the second game Pratt Auto/Sonic Drive In defeated Price Funeral Home 4-1. Tyler Harris doubled in two runs for the winners while Zac Lee, Gage Hales and Blake Gettings each singled. Dalton Clark joined Lee, Hales and Gettings in scoring. Gettings and Hales each added an RBI.
Gettings pitched a 2-hitter in getting the win. He didn't walk a batter and struck out 11.

Pitching for Pratt Auto/Sonic Drive in was Blake Gettings giving up 1 run on 2 hits, 0 walks and 11 strikeouts.

Other team members for the winners were James Deberry, Arik Haynes, Wesley Haynes, Thomas Miller and Jon Todd. Coaches are Artis Stratton and Kevin Harris.

Pitching for Price Funeral Home was Ryan Basham, giving up 4 hits, 2 walks and 4 runs with 8 strikeouts.. Lucas Dean got one of the hits. Avery Collier singled and scored the lone run on Dillon Brown's RBI.

The Price Funeral Home roster includes Austin Dukes, Jared England, Matt Guinn, Cody Hunt, Anthony Oberhausen, Mason Stanley and Joshua Whitney. Coaches are Lonnie Brown and Eric Cole.
