Lady Cougars open softball season with 3 wins

The Logan County Lady Cougars got their 2019 season off to a great start by winning their first three games by a 41-13 worksheet. They banged out 45 hits along the way. Among their opponents was Allen County-Scottsville, which annually fields one of the best softball programs in Southcentral Kentucky.

Coach Mark Wood’s Logan team banged out 13 hits—5 of them for extra bases—In scoring those 15 runs against AC-S. Pressley Harris got 3 of those hits, including a double. Lilly Newman, Shelby Gettings, Brea Croslin and KJ Page had 2 hits each.

Croslin homered, doubled and drove in 4 runs. Page tripled and singled. Sydney Lee also doubled, and hers produced 3 RBIs. Jillian McLellan and Kennedy Nichols each singled in a run. Newman, Croslin and Page each walked.

Hailey Collins and Abby Canler scored 2 runs each.

Lee was the winning pitcher, giving up the 7 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Abby Hinton got the final two outs, both on strikeouts.

Coach Brad Bonds’ Lady Patriots had beaten Bowling Green 4-0 in their opener.

Lady Cougars 15, McLean County 5

Nichols had a super game at the plate with 4 hits, a homer and 6 RBIs. Freshman Shelby Gettings also had 4 hits with a double and an RBI. Croslin doubled and tripled among her 3 hits. Page, Hinton and Lee each had 2 hits. Croslin and Lee each scored 3 runs. Lee doubled and walked. Hinton and Lee worked the only walks.

Rosie Kerchenski and Harris also had a hit. Lee drove in 3 runs and Hinton 2. The Lady Cougars totaled 19 hits.

Hinton pitched the win, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts.

Lady Cougars 11, Butler County 1

Page doubled among her 3 hits, producing 2 RBIs. Gettings homered and singled, driving in 4 runs.  McLellan made her 2 hits count with a double, 2 RBIS and a run scored. Harris doubled in a run. Croslin had 2 hits with Canler, Newman and Nichols getting 1 each. Gettings, Newman and Nichols scored 2 runs each.

Gettings pitched the win, allowing 4 hits and no walks with 6 strikeouts. She got the 15 outs on just 67 pitches.

Also appearing in one or more of these games were Maddix Mowles and Ali Garrett.
