Panther baseball gets first win

The Russellville Panthers got their first baseball win of the season Saturday, winning 7-2 over Caverna.

Coach Tyler Meacham’s team picked up 3 hits and 8 walks. All of the hits were singles, coming off the bats of Daylan Roberts, Khristian McCall and Gram Humphrey.  Jesus Zamarripa and Nick Bollenbecker each walked twice with Nathan Cates, Joshua Proctor, Trenton Hopkins and Roberts each getting a free pass.

Three of the runs were scored by Zamarripa and Cates crossed the plate twice. Also scoring were Humphrey and Bollenbecker. Humphrey and Zamarripa each stole a base. Roberts had 2 RBIs with Humphrey and Hopkins driving in a run each.

Starting pitcher Roberts worked 4 innings of non-hit ball to get the win. He struck out 5 and walked 3 Colonels. The only run he allowed was unearned. Humphrey pitched the last 3 innings, also giving up an earned run on 3 hits and walking none while striking out 6.
