Logan tennis beats Franklin

The Logan County Cougar Tennis team got an important win Monday night against regional foe Franklin-Simpson. The Cougars won the five-point match 3-2.

Logan’s Andrew Lyne gave a good effort but fell short 3-6, 0-6 in 2 sets to Franklin’s Chase Johnson. 

On the girls side Logan’s #1 doubles team of Lauren Barnes and Kara Noffsinger got a huge come from behind win against the Wildcats #1 doubles team of Katie Dillard & Hallie Lindsey. After falling behind 0-3 in the 8-game pro set, Barnes & Noffsinger stormed back to force a tiebreaker after Barnes fought off a match point late in the set to swing the momentum. In the tiebreaker, Noffsinger hit a blistering shot past Dillard to grab the early lead.  With the score tied at 2, Noffsinger then hit a lobbing shot over the rackets of Lindsey & Dillard that caught the back of the line that gave them a lead they’d never relinquish, winning the tiebreaker 7-2 and the match 9-8.  It was a pivotal win that will boost their resume as they hope to earn a top eight seed in the 4th Region Tournament beginning May 11.

Also in doubles Logan’s Kate Malott & Blayke Bingham won a convincing pro set match against Katie Dillard & Shelby Johnson by a score of 8-1. Coach Jeff Noffsinger said, “both of them played with a lot of aggression and returned serves very well.” 

In girls singles Logan’s Lindsay Allen got an 8-6 pro set win against Shelby Johnson. Allen’s win sealed the victory for Cougar Tennis.

Logan’s Katie Noffsinger fell 2-8 in her pro set to Hallie Lindsey. Noffsinger, who has been dealing with a pulled hamstring, continues give a good effort and wants to finish her senior season strong despite the injury. 

On Saturday the Cougars will host the Barren County Trojans & Glasgow Scotties at LCHS with first serve at approximately 10 a.m.
