The pairings for 13th District diamond sports tournaments look very similar to the district’s basketball pairings. Logan County is number one again, this time in baseball and softball. Meanwhile the same two schools who were seeded second and third in the girls basketball tournament—Russellville and Franklin-Simpson—will do battle again in the opposite bracket in softball.
The tournament will be played on Logan County’s fields Monday and Tuesday of next week. Both Logan and Franklin-Simpson teams will be playing about the same time in the opening round while Russellville and Todd teams’ first pitch times will be greatly different.
Five of the eight teams have excellent records.
Cougar baseball is 25-6 overall (the region’s best record), 16-2 in the region and 5-1 in the district while Franklin-Simpson baseball is 17-17 overall, 9-6 in the region and 5-1 in the district. Todd Central is 5-10 overall and Russellville 2-18.
In softball, the Lady Cougars are 20-6 overall, 7-3 in the region and 5-1 in the district. Russellville’s Lady Panthers are right behind at 19-7, 10-5 and 4-2. Franklin is 17-15, 8-9 and 3-3. Todd’s softball record is better than its baseball counterpart at 9-16, 1-9, 0-6.
Unfortunately, both the baseball and softball championship games start at the same time on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
