The Logan County Cougar doubles team of Lauren Barnes and Kara Noffsinger pulled an upset in the quarterfinals of the Fourth Region girls tennis tournament at Greenwood High School this week. As the number six seed, they faced the number four seed Greenwood on their own courts.

Barnes and Noffsinger lost the first set 4-6 and trailed midway through the second set 2-4 before storming back to grab the second set and win 6-4.

In the third set super tiebreaker the ladies fell behind 0-3 before reeling off four consecutive points to take a 4-3 lead. After a back-and-forth rally, Barnes and Nofsinger found themselves down 6-8. The girls then scored four consecutive points to win the set and match 10-8 and earn a spot in next week’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association state tennis tournament in Lexington

This is the second consecutive year that Barnes & Noffsinger have advanced to the regional quarterfinals. They are the first Cougars to qualify for the State Championships since Catherine Miller & Noffsinger played in the 2016 State Tournament.

Jeff Noffsinger is the Cougar tennis coach.
