Logan County Cougar boys golf played their first match of the season last week at their home course, Rolling Hills Golf Course. It was a 9-hole match that featured Logan County versus the Todd County Rebels and Russellville Panthers.
It was a great opening first day for the Cougars, who won with a 179, an average of almost 45 for the four scores which counted. Todd Central shot 198. Almost 50 per golfer. Russellville Coach Rex Booth only had three golfers tee off, so the Panthers were ineligible. RHS golfers averaged slightly over 155.
Coach Kelley Jordan’s Cougars were led by Junior golfer Eli Forbes, who shot 39. He was followed by two senior golfers, Jordan Baer and Jay Hardison. Baer shot 44 and Hardison 47. Senior Riley Ferguson ended with a 49 and to round out the Cougars eighth grader Braden Engler 52. The top four scores counted, and the Cougars ended with a
Todd Central’s Austin Rager led all scorers with a 34. Trailing the match medalist were J. Hampton with 52 and R. Williams and P. Rager with 56 each.
Daylan Roberts had a good round for the Panthers, typing Forbes for second overall with a 39. Josh Proctor shot 60 and Nathan Cates 67 Athletic Director Kyle Yates says Jace sparks is also on the team but did not play in this match.
Hopkinsville 172, Cougars 175
Cougar golf also played Hopkinsville High later in the week for the second match of the year for the Cougars. It was another home match at Rolling Hills. The Tigers from Hoptown came away with a narrow victory with total score of 172, edging out the Cougars by three at a total of 175.
Forbes was low man for the Cougars at 42. Seniors Baer, Hardison and Ferguson all produced good scores with Baer 44, Hardison 45, and Ferguson 44. 8th grader Engler held his own with 51, and junior Noah Hayes rounded out the Cougars scores with a 61.
Coach Jordan said he was pleased to see the effort and how the Cougars completed against a strong team from Hopkinsville.
Tigers James Floz and Evan Pyle had the best scores of the day with 40 and 41, respectively, while teammate Will Binkley tied Cougars Baer and Ferguson along with Russellville’s Roberta for fourth with a 44.
