The Carlos Quarles Head Coaching Era in Russellville boys basketball got off to a super start last week with an opening two wins, both at home. The Panthers won 57-45 over Greenbrier, Tenn. on Monday and 56-54 over Adair County on Saturday.

Jaquis Todd had a sensational game in the opener. He scored 23 points by excelling at all three ranges—3 of 5 from long range, 2 of 3 free throws and 6 of 8 from 2-point ranges. He also showed balance by scoring 6 points in the first quarter and seven each in the third and fourth. He hit a 3-pointer in each of the quarters.

Chevis Elliott scored 8 points, Chaun Cheaney 6, and Xavier Coleman, Josh Allen and Jovari Gamble 5 each. Devan Kimbrough, Dustin Brown and Jackson Hampton also scored.

Ten players scored for Greenbrier, led by Triston Eakes with 11 points.

Panthers 56, Adair County 54

Todd was not only the leading scorer again, but he also broke the 20-point barrier again, this time with 21. He hit four 3-pointers and all five free throw attempts. Nine of those points came in the third quarter.

Allen got all 12 of his points on 2-pointers, all but one of them in the first half. Coleman and Hampton scored 7 points each, Gamble added 5, and Cheaney and Kimbrough 2 each.

The Panthers go on the road this week. They play at East Robertson across the state line Thursday and go to McLean County for 4:3- start Saturday.
