Six new members were inducted into the Logan County Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame Friday. The Hall of Fame ceremony featured former Lady Cougars, families and friends

The honorees were players Cindy Huffines, Shana Dean, Carrie Horlander and Kim Johnson Higgins along with coaches Jim Thompson and Mike Haynes.

See their credentials in a story on The LoJo at http://www.theloganjournal.com/Stories.aspx?Article=sports1263 along with some other articles about the special evening,

Each of the inductees had selected one or more presenters to greet them when they went on the floor between games of the Clashes of the Cats. They all were part of a reception held in their honor in the Auxiliary Gym before the girls game.

Cindy Huffines had a big support group with her, including three sisters. One of those sisters, Joyce Noe of Russellville, was her presenter. Joyce’s twin, Janice Moyer, had flown in from Hershey, Pa., and her oldest sister, Cheryl McNeill, had come in from Missouri. Their mother, Margaret Huffines Palmer, was there, as were her uncle, Bobby Huffines, and some of her cousins, including David Lassiter and Judge Joe Hendricks.

Jim Thompson appeared in his fifth Hall of Fame induction in the six years it has been held. He had been the presenter for his son, Mark Thompson, coach/principal Howard Gorrell, and two of his players, Tracie Mason and Lora Spencer. All four of the women who were inducted this year had also played for him.

Thompson’s presenters were his wife Dorris, son Mark, and daughter Michelle Thompson Blick. Several other family members were present, including Michelle’s husband and their children.

Mike Haynes was accompanied by his wife Teresa and several members of their family, including their sons, former Cougar basketball standouts Chris and Clint Haynes. They have a close connection with Freed Hardeman College and its basketball program. All of them now live in Tennessee.

Haynes chose as his presenters the senior starters on the 1989 Lady Cougars, Pam Collins Pollard and Jalee Wright Page. Their picture can be found in an article about the 1989-90 teams being honored at http://www.theloganjournal.com/Stories.aspx?Article=sports1267.

Carrie Horlander is a social worker in Bowling Green. Her sister, former Lady Cougar Holly Horlander, was with her. Thompson said he believes that one or two of his LCHS teams would have gone to state hand Holly not suffered a career-ending knee injury. Carrie’s presenter was her mother, Mary Horlander. Her dad, the late Hank Horlander, always joined her mom as Carrie’s biggest supporters as a Lady Cougar.

Shana Dean is now Dr. Shana Dean, a dentist in Louisville. See seemed delighted to see friends and teammates she hadn’t see for years. Her presenter was her mom, Pat Dean. Her late dad, Wayne Dean, would have enjoyed the evening.

Kim Johnson Higgins is a familiar figure around Logan County High School and at one time was a member of Haynes’ coaching staff. She was accompanied by her husband, Barry Higgins. They have two grown children who are graduates of LCHS.

Kim chose as her presenter, her lifelong friend and teammate, Melodie Goodman Higgins. They were teammates at Lewisburg Middle School and LCHS, fellow assistant coaches with the Lady Cougars, and friends forever, as are their husbands.

Melodie coordinated the entire event for the 1989 and 90 teams with help from former Lady Cougar Amy Goodman Hinton and the girls basketball booster club.

Richard Holloman has unselfishly chaired the Hall of Fame committee ever since its inception. His wife Louise is always by his side, making the evening better.

First Southern National Bank sponsors the awards for the Hall of Famers. Among those representing the bank were Holli Brown Black, Crystal Gunderson and Keith Cox.
