Russellville Schools Athletic Director Ryan Davenport has announced the naming of Tony Nichols as Russellville Middle School head baseball coach. He will also be an RMS assistant football coach.

Nichols is a member of First Baptist Church and has worked at Logan Aluminum for 27 years. He is a former Adairville City Council member.

He played high school baseball and attended Trevecca University.

Nichols served as an assistant baseball coach at RHS under coaches Greg Shelton and Blake Crabtree. He also coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball for many years.

Colby Nichols, son of Coach Nichols, played baseball at RHS for four years. His daughter Kennedy Nichols was a standout athlete at Logan County High School both on the court and softball field.

Coach Nichols released this statement:

“I want to teach kids to love baseball and teach them to be great students. I have a plan to get Russellville's baseball program back to its winning ways, starting with our little ones at Stevenson and RMS. I believe with hard work and teaching the fundamentals of the game we’ll be able to compete.”

Athletic Director Davenport released this statement:

“I met Coach Nichols when I coached his son Colby in basketball at RMS. His son was an outstanding student and young man. Coach Nichols is a great role model and will be a great mentor for our young athletes. He has always been a big believer in teaching the fundamentals of the game. Coach Nichols is very knowledgeable and he’s an outstanding motivator. As a father of a future RMS baseball player, I’m excited that he gets to play for such a respectable person.”
