RHS Soccer pounds LCHS for first ever Panther win in Clash

Russellville boys soccer was dominant in getting what is believed to be the first ever Panther win over the Cougars in a Clash of the Cats Thursday.

Avery Flener figured in on five of the six goals and Dustin Brown on four of the 6. Flener scored four times and assisted on a fifth. Brown scored once and had four assists. Also, Dalton Gilbert scored. Jeremiah Smith and Milo Brooks contributed an assist each.

Other key players for the Panthers (3-4) were Lazaro Lopez and Cameron Lewis, according to Coach Jeramy Rust. Nick Bollenbecker had 10 saves in goal, allowing only one score.

Panthers who joined them on the field were Jacob Farwick, Jose Guerra, Taylor Gwynette, Akshar Patel, Daylan Roberts, Luke Skipworth, Talon Stratton, Patrick Summerall, Robin Tran and Cody Williams.

 They played good tonight and got the first ever RHS win against Logan in varsity boys soccer history. Still have work to do but getting better every game.

Andrew Katz scored the lone Cougar goal. Goalkeeper Luis Rogers stopped 15 Panther shots on goal, but 6 more got past him.

Also playing for Coach Hunt McCollum’s Cougars were Lucas Arevalo, Set Burchett, Evan Dana, Mason Freeman, Andre Juarez, Nathaniel Lovitt, Zachary Matthews, Nathaniel Petrie, Jeffery Taylor and Clark Timmons.

This was the first goal LCHS (0-5) had scored this season. Shutout losses to Bowling Green, Franklin-Simpson and Todd Central were by a combined 22 goals.

He notes: “Russellville went 3-0-1 against Logan this week. Wins by boys varsity 6-1, boys middle 2-0 and girls middle 2-1, and girls JV tied 0-0.”
