John Myers has spent many a Friday night at Cougar Field taking on the Logan County Cougars. Two guys named John Myers will do so again tomorrow night.

The Glasgow Scotties have accepted an invitation to face LCHS, after both of them had games canceled. Logan was supposed to play a crucial Class 4A district contest against Hopkinsville, but the Tigers have to stay home, reportedly because of being quarantined from exposure to COVID-19.

That Hoptown game has now been rescheduled for the end of the season, replacing a scheduled meeting with South Warren. Last week, Madisonville-North Hopkins refused to come to Logan County because of Coronavirus fears. The game with M-NH has been rescheduled, knocking Franklin-Simpson off the list of 2020 opponents.

Meanwhile, Glasgow is 2-1, having edged Allen County-Scottsville 21-19, blown out Hart County 39-21 and been shut out 36-0 by South Warren.

Coach Jeff Garmon’s Scotties are quarterbacked by a familiar name, John Carter Myers. He is the son of former Russellville head coach John Myers and his wife Jennifer, who both are now administrators in the Glasgow School System. John is on the Scottie coaching staff. John Carter has completed 29 of 48 passes for 439 yards and 2 touchdowns with 5 interceptions. He has rushed 27 times for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Hunter Scott does most of the ball-carrying for Glasgow. He’s rushed 51 times for 374 yards. Andrew Phillips is the leading receiver, having caught 13 passes for 265 yards and both of Myers’ touchdown passes, an average of 88 yards per game.

The Cougars are 1-1, having beaten Russellville 29-7 and losing 22-21 at Greenwood. The Cougars, however, will be without their leading passer and rusher. Senior Braxton Baptiste had thrown for 167 yards and rushed for 146 before breaking his leg fairly early in the Greenwood game.

In fact, Baptiste had 80 more rushing yardage than the number two rusher, flanker Anthony ‘Rooster’ Woodard. Better known as a defender and a pass catcher, Woodard has rushed 11 times for 86 yards, almost 8 yards per carry. Baptiste was averaging 14.6 yards per carry.

Jaden Sells has 4 catches with Wyatt Blake and Woodard hauling in 3 each. Blake is the receiving yardage leader with 80.

Quarterbacking is now in the hands of sophomore Corbin Rayno, who has the size and skills to be very effective. He got some experience after Baptiste went down and had the Cougars playing the Gators very close. Word is that he has worked very hard the past two weeks to be physically and mentally ready to lead the team.

Blake has recovered two fumbles and is second in total tackles (by two) to one of Logan’s best defenders ever, Zach Yates. Not only does Yates lead in tackles, but 16 of his 21 tackles have been solos. Logan Gipson is third overall, one tackle behind Blake, and 14 of his 18 tackles have been solos. Ten of Woodard’s 14 tackles have been solos.
