The Russellville Panthers’ season opener was a breeze. Coach Carlos Quarles’ team breezed to a 57-42 win at Caverna Tuesday.

Post player Josh Allen led the way with 23 points. He hit 11 of 18 field goal attempts. A 6’2’, 230-pound senior, Allen accounted for 8 of the Panther’s 32 rebounds.

Junior Kendahl Edmonds hit 3 of his 6 three-point attempts and finished with 11 points. Senior Jaquis Todd hit 5 of his 6 shots and totaled 10 points.

Edmonds’ trio of treys accounted for all the three-pointers the Panthers hit. His teammates missed 14.

Other Panthers who scored were Lennon Ries with 4, Jovari Gamble 3, and Xavier Coleman, Layne Steele and Jackson Hampton with 2 each. Chevis Elliott also played in the win.

Caverna coach Blake Button does not report statistics. Five of the dozen players on the Colonels roster are in middle school. Two of the young ones are freshman Dax Button and seven grader Cade Button.
