After having only gotten to play eight games in the first seven weeks of the season and winning just one of them, the Logan County Cougars play four games in five days last week, winning the first three and losing the fourth by a single point.

Cougars 61, Caverna 49

Senior Anthony ‘Rooster’ Woodard had a tremendous game, hitting 12 of 17 shots and 8 of 11 free throws for 32 points. He also had 5 rebounds.

Classmate Blake Wood added 12 points, including hitting 2 of 4 three-pointers.

Junior Dakota Clinard put together a breakout game with 10 points and 9 rebounds. He hit 5 of 8 field goal attempts.

Zak Delrosal shot the only two free throws that Woodard didn’t. He hit them both. Landon Larson added a three-pointer. Delrosal had 4 of the 29 rebounds.

Cougars 45, Daviess County 42

Woodard was the only double figure scorer with 22, as Coach Nathan Thompson’s team won on defense. He was 9 of 16 from the field and 4 of 5 from the line. The Cougars hit 51.4 percent from the field but only 42.9 percent on free throws.

Wood hit 3 of 7 three-point attempts and finished with 9 points. Those were the only treys the team got to fall.

Larson had 3 of the team’s 15 rebounds.

Cougars 59, Edmonson County 45

Wood hit 6 three-pointers, 5 of them in the first half, and finished with 20 points. That gave him 11 treys made in four days.

Even though he scored 29 points. Woodard didn’t shoot with his usual accuracy. He was 13 of 25 from the field, including 0 of 5 from long range. He hit just 3 of 8 free throws. The team was a dismal 4 of 13 at the line in the win.

The top scorers were the leading rebounders, too. Wood had 8 and Woodard 7. Delrosal and Larson each added 5 rebounds, and Larson hit a three-pointer.

Logan led only 13-11 after a quarter, but the Cougars went to work, outscoring the Wildcats 7-2 to build a 25-15 lead. Wood hit his fifth straight three-pointer and added another bucket, while Jaden Sells scored on an assist from Delrosal.

The Wildcats scored, but Wood hit from short range and Woodard connected on two buckets, the second coming on a Clinard assist.

Logan led 31-17 at the half with Wood already totaling 17 points and Woodard 14.

The margin reached 19 on five straight points by Larson and a goal by Woodard.

The Wildcats cut the lead to 12, but Wood responded with his sixth three-pointer to put the game out of reach.

Cumberland County 56, Cougars 55

Playing their fourth game in five days, the Cougars were sluggish in the first half. Woodard sat out most of it. Cumberland led 30-19 at halftime.

Wood hit a pair of goals—one of them from long range—and Sells added a basket to pull the home team to within four at 34-30 with about two minutes left in the third quarter. Woodard’s long three-pointer at the buzzer cut the margin to 40-35 going into the final period.

The visitors went ahead 45-35, but Woodard scored on a steal, Wood bombed a trey, and Clinard scored while the Panthers only got three points, those coming on a three-pointer by Panther star Ty Seay, who finished with a spectacular 33 points.

Cumberland led 52-44, but Delrosal found Woodard for a three-pointer and then hit two free throws with 33 seconds to cut the margin to two.

Woodard stole the ball from Seay and put together a 3-point play to give the Cougars their first lead at 55-54 with 18.7 seconds.

Seay responded with what proved to be the winning points on free throws with 15 seconds left. He went 7 for 7 at the line.

Woodard appeared to be fouled at the end of the game, but nothing was called and the Panthers escaped with the win.

Woodard finished with 16 points—all in the second half. That gave him a total of 99 points for the week. He hadn’t hit a three-pointer in the first three games but went 3 for 4 from that range in this game. He had 9 rebounds.

Wood hit three more treys in this game, giving him 14 for the week. He scored 13 points and joined Larson in hitting both of his free throws. Delrosal was 4 for 4 at the line.

Sells hit half of his 10 shots for 10 points. He grabbed 6 of the Cougars’ 29 rebounds.

Seay made two turnovers late in the game, but he shot spectacularly. He was 7 of 8 from short range, 4 of 7 on 3-pointers, and 7 of 7 at the line. Randall Camfield hit a trio of treys for 9 points. Malachi Caprietta had 9 of the winners’ 30 rebounds.

The Cougars entertain Russellville tonight in the Clash of the Cats.
