Regional tournament format altered, announced

Russellville Basketball can earn two more home games in this unusually formatted 2020-21 season.

First-round games in the Fourth Region Tournaments next week will be played at the home gyms of district winners. The semifinals and finals for both genders will be played at Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University, as usual. As has been the case in this week’s 13th District Tournament, only one game will be played per day.

The Russellville Panthers play host Franklin-Simpson today at 7 p.m. in the boys district championship game. The Lady Panthers will go against Franklin’s Lady Cats Friday at 7 p.m. All finalists move on regional play.

WRUS will carry both district finals live and all regional games involving an RHS team. Both Logan County teams were eliminated in the opening rounds, ending their tenures as defending district champions.

Here are the schedules for the tournaments, although pairings are not yet known:

Boys
Sunday, March 21 Four games at district winners
Monday and Tuesday, March 22/23 One semifinal each night at Diddle Arena  6 p.m.
Wednesday, March 24 Finals at Diddle Arena 6 p.m.

Girls
Thursday, March 25 Four games at district winners
Friday and Saturday, March 26/27 One semifinal each night at Diddle Arena  6 p.m.
March 28 Finals at Diddle Arena 2 p.m.

All tickets sold online. $8 all seats  Must sit in seats you bought. No exception

Free parking this year

Can only have 20 on bench including coaches
Only 10 cheerleaders
No bands
No hospitality room
