Here’s a look at some fall sports results involving Logan County teams. Most of the information has been supplied to The LoJo by Athletic Director Greg Howard.
Lady Cougar Soccer
Logan County Girls Soccer earned its fourth win in a row (and second District 13 win) over Todd County Central. Kadyn Costello, opened the scoring in the second minute by taking a brilliant diagonal pass from Bri Shelton and finishing top shelf over the goalie’s finger tips.
For the next 76 minutes both teams slugged it out in blistering heat, which required water breaks in each half.
The Lady Cougar defense, anchored by Carli Jo Bruner, Ella Moore, Calista Petrie, Emma Allen and Linnea Pitts, kept the Rebels from mounting any serious threats. With two minutes remaining Elizabeth Phelps slammed home a rebound from three yards out to seal the victory. Goalkeeper Brady Alsup earned her third clean sheet in five matches.
Coach Barry McReynolds’ Lady Cougars traveled to Christian County for what proved to be a very tough contest but ultimately prevailed 5-3. Costello opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a long direct kick from the defensive side of the field from Calista Petrie. Briana Shelton scored on a laser-shot from 25 yards out.
Freshman goalkeeper Kyla Bilyeu got her first varsity start and played well, fending off difficult shots from the Colonels all night long. She finished with 13 saves.
The last 20 minutes were close when Christian County brought the score to 4-3. Costello scored her 4th goal of the night in the last minute to put the game away for the Lady Cougars.
Girls Middle School Soccer -
Logan County Girls Soccer hosted Russellville in a middle school Clash of the Cats at Logan County on Thursday night. It was 8th grade recognition night and they celebrated with a 4-1 victory.
Emma Goodwin opened the scoring for the Lady Cougars on a corner kick from Kaitlyn Bartz. Later in the first half, Bartz scored on a penalty kick. Bartz and Goodwin combined early in the second half after Goodwin took a throw-in from Bartz and scored at the end of a long run. Kinley Durbin finished the scoring for Logan County at the end of a long run of her own.
The Lady Cougars used strong defending led by goalkeeper Alyssa Kie to limit the Lady Panthers to one goal. Kerrihana Miller, Mikaela Pitts, Grace Belcher and Abigail Bibb turned in strong defensive performances, and Skylar Ward played well on the offensive side.
The team continues to improve from game to game. One of the most evident improvements this year has been team communication on the field
*On Aug. 26, the Lady Cougar Middle School Soccer Team traveled to Todd County to play in a district match up. The game started fast with multiple chances to score for each team. Defense came up big the whole game with Bibb and Chloe Meredith leading the Lady Cougar back line.
After a hard fought first half, Goodwin broke free on a nice run down the sideline and slotted a goal near post. With 10 minutes to go, Todd County tied the game up with a penalty kick. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Cougar and Lady Cougar Golf
At the Cougar Scramble fundraiser on June 5 at Rolling Hills Golf Course, the team of Charlie Burt, B.J. Shackelford, Pete Carnall and Stewart Slaton took first place with a 54. Finishing second with a 55 was the foursome of Jonathan Dossett, Clay Waggoner, George Cole and Terry Simon.

After a summer of hard work (especially these last two weeks), our boys played their heart out and exceeded all expectations! We finished in a tie for 6th out of 15 teams on July 30, and we were only a few strokes out of third! ?
All I can say is, I’m very proud of the work we’re putting in, and the result that followed.

*At the SOKY Shootout Aug. 4, Brayden Engler shot 82, Brayden Bond 84, and Hunter Holloway and Tanner Robinson 90 each for a 346.
*In another 18-hole event, Bond shot 74, Engler 78, Robinson 89 and Holloway 91 for a 333 as a team. On the back nine, Bond shot a 36 and Engler a 37.
*Coach Rosser says, The Cougars and Lady Cougars competed in the Wildcat Shootout at Franklin Country Club. The boys finished 13/16 teams and the girls ended up getting rained out, but, let me tell you, I’ve never been more proud of a bunch of young adults in my life!!
“Golf is a frustrating game, but also a game of honesty, integrity and professionalism. Despite a day full of adversity, both our boys and girls demonstrated the highest level of character a coach could ever ask for.”
Bond shot 79, Engler 82, Robinson 89 and Holloway 90.
*On Aug. 10, the Cougars competed in a tri-match in Elkton. The Cougars came away with second place with a score of 171. Todd County took honors with a score of 168, followed by the Cougars’ 171, and then Russellville at 221. Bond shot 39, Engler 40, Holloway 44, Robinson 47 and Rodgers 49.
*On Thursday, the Lady Cougars played in a tri-match at Western Hills. The Lady Cougars had a dominant performance, beating both Christian County and Muhlenberg County! Leading the way was junior Abby Forbes. She had the lowest round of the day (by 8 shots!!) with a 39. Lexi Plummer shot 54 and Emma Fitzgerald 55.
With only three players, the Lady Cougars can’t compete for wins. If the other teams had agreed to use only three scores, Rosser’s team would have won 148 to Christian County’s 153 and Muhlenberg County’s 166.
*The girls also competed in the Marshall County Invitational at the Calvert City Country Club. Several PR’s were shot. Forbes shot her lowest high school score with an 84. Fitzgerald shot personal bests of 43 on nine holes and 84 on 18. Plummer totaled 121.
*On Aug. 4, the girls played in the Sword and the Ore at Lindsey Wilson College and finished with very respectable scores. Forbes shot 88 and Fitzgerald 106.
*They played in the SOKY Shootout at Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green. The course set up today was very tough. Forbes shot 92 and Fitzgerald 111.
*On Aug. 26, in their first two-team match of the year, the Lady Cougars defeated the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats 141-149 if three scores only are counted. Forbes shot 43, Fitzgerald 45 and Plummer 53.
The varsity boys played well, too, but fell just short, 175-173. Bond shot 40, Engler 41, Holloway 45 and Robinson 49. Karson Rodgers had 53 as the fifth man.
*On the evening of Aug. 17, the Cougars played a tough Warren East team. “Even though we didn’t win the match, we made some great strides in our growth as a team,” says Coach Rosser.
“We had two of our JV players play up today on the varsity team, representing the future very well. Congrats to Caiden Kirby (60) and Mason Logsdon (66) for their first varsity match!
“We also had two players shoot their personal best in a match! They were Robinson with a 42 and Rodgers a 45. Holloway also chipped in with a solid 44.
Cross Country
The middle school cross country runners competed at the Raider Twilight Run Thursday night at Ephram White Park in Bowling Green. This was a makeup date from last Saturday's rained out event.Places and times are below.
Girls 3k Run CC Middle School

Freshman Football
The team football traveled to Hopkinsville in late August and came away with a 32-6 win. Key players in the game were Brady Hinton, 3 rushing touchdowns, Tobey Syndor with a 50-yard touchdown run, and Delaney Wright with a rushing touchdown. Jaden Blick led the team in tackles on defense and Emerson Poteet had an interception.
Volleyball
The Lady Cougars are 5-3 on the season. Four of the wins have come in the regular season. They included a continuation of the almost-tw0 decade win streak against the other three 13th District teams.
The victory over Russellville was a COVID forfeiture. Russellville is now coached by April Cain Robertson, who was a standout in the early years of Logan’s volleyball excellence.
The Lady Cougars went 1-3 in the Bluegrass Invitational at Lexington Lafayette High School. The win was against Rowan County, which also lost to Logan in a regular season match. Losses were to Lexington Bryan Station, McCracken County and host Lafayette.
Logan does not report players’ statistics to be published on the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s Scoreboard.
Boys Soccer
In a rebuilding year, new coach Darren Waldo is guiding the team’s rebirth. The Cougars lost their first three matches to Muhlenberg County, Franklin-Simpson and Barren County.
Jeffery Taylor has scored the only goal. Goalkeepers have been Kaspars Dawson, Jaxson Shrull, Evan Dana & Elijah Baker.
The team has been awarded COVID victories over Hopkins County Central and Christian County.
Playing in all three matches on the field have been Daniels Daswon, Kevin Hernandez, Andre Juarez, Andrew Katz, Nathaniel Lovitt, Denton Motsinger III, Luis Rogers, Andrew Sweetsir, Seth Williamson, Baker, Dana, Shrull and Taylor.
