Logan County’s Abby Forbes shot a 90 Tuesday in the KHSAA regional golf tournament at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Russellville. As a result, she qualified for state.

“She tied for ninth,” says her coach, Will Rosser. “For state, they take the top team and top seven individuals not on the winning team. State is at Bowling Green Country Club next week, Oct 4-6. Practice round is on the 4th, Round 1 is on the 5th, and players that make the cut play the final round on the 6th.”

Rosser has high praise for Forbes: “Abby has worked her tail off over the past few years and I can’t think of another player that deserves this opportunity more than Abby. She put in the work all off season and continued that dedication all season long. She’s been a joy to coach, and I’m looking forward to watching her play well next week! For all the kids out there, this is a true testament that Hard Work Pays Off!”

Lady Cougar freshman Emma Fitzgerald shot a 101 and sophomore Lexi Plummer a 104.

“While Emma and Lexi didn’t qualify for State, they both made huge improvements all season and beat their last year’s regional score by several strokes. All our girls are returning next year and I’m looking forward to another great season for the Lady Cougars.”

The Cougar boys were led by sophomore Brayden Bond, who fell just short of the playoff for State by two strokes. Eighth grader Karson Rodgers also had a very impressive showing. Sophomore Braden Engler struggled down the stretch, but he has made major strides this year and crushed his last year’s regional score, says his coach.

“This was Tanner’s first ever regional; he played solid for us Tuesday and will be our lone senior next year. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do next year,” Rosser says. Hunter Holloway, a freshman, also hung in there on tough day.

“All the boys, along with our full up-incoming JV team, will return next year for what I expect to be one of the best boys team we’ve had in very long time.”

For Russellville, Daylan Roberts tied for 16th with a 6-over 77. Ethan Paddock shot 123 and Jayce Sparks 134 for Coach Dennis Pardue’s Panthers.

Greenwood won the team title led by Gator Michael Lang regional medalist with a 71.
