Lady Cougars to play FS in 2A regional finals Saturday

The Logan County Lady Cougars will take on 13th District rival Franklin-Simpson Saturday for the Class 2A regional championship. Neither one will have a home court advantage, since both the girls and boys finals will be played at Hart County High School at Munfordville. Game time is 1 p.m., Logan County time.

Logan reached the finals with a 54-37 win at Warren Central in last week’s semifinals. They had beaten Warren East in the first round earlier.

Against Central, TaKylah Mason had one of her best games ever, hitting 6 of 7 two-point field goal attempts on the way to 16 points. Gracie Borders went 6 for 11 from the field, scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Nora Epley hit a third of her shots on the way to 11 points. Emily Borders and Brenley Adler each scored 5 points, and Adler, a seventh grader, was second in rebounding with 5.

Coach Dedra Adler’s team will take a 4-3 record into the game, having won three straight.

Franklin-Simpson is 4-2. Coach Ashley Taylor’s Lady Kats are led by two outstanding veteran seniors in Hadley Turner and Malyea Partinger along with junior Katelyn McAlister.

Lady Cougars 60, Daviess County 49

The day after beating Central, the Lady Cougars’ Gracie Borders, who is having an outstanding senior season, totaled 22 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Epley went 4 for 7 from three-point range. She added a free throw for 13 points. Emerson McKinnis scored 10 of her 11 points in the second half. Emily Borders had 7 rebounds, and freshman Reese Wetton contributed a field goal in both the second and fourth quarters without missing a shot.

Lady Cougars 43, Portland 41

Gracie Borders kept going strong with 15 rebounds and 11 points. She was 6 of 10 from inside the arc, 6 of 12 overall and 5 of 7 at the free throw line. McKinnis added 9 rebounds with Mason scoring 9 and Epley 7.

The Lady Cougars hit 5 of 6 free throws in the fourth quarter. Borders went 4 of 5, and Mason hit her only free throw.

Game 1 (Girls): Logan County (Home) vs Franklin-Simpson 1:00 pm CST

Game 2 (Boys): Franklin-Simpson (Home) vs Warren East 3:00 pm CST

AWARDS: Section runner-up and champion trophies/plaques will be presented at the conclusion of each game. The girls champion will cut down one net following their game and the boys champion will cut down one net following their game. The winning teams will also receive the game ball.
