Behind some great individual finishes and great depth, the Logan County Cougars won the SKY Track championship at Western Kentucky University on May 7.
Coach Greg Howard’s team beat Bowling Green by 15 points with Edmonson County another 18 points behind in the 18-team field.
Riverdale High School of Tennessee competed in the events but was not eligible for the title, since the school is not a SKY member.
Connor Edwards picked up a championship individually, winning the javelin throw. Logan dominated that event with teammates Aaron Johnson 7th
, Cody Thurston 8th, Tommy Cook 9th and Jon Richardson 11th.
Barrett Rogers had a second individually and placed in the top five in four events. He was 2nd in the 800 and joined Sye Head, Maurice Pheal and Noah
Thomas in winning the 4 X 800 Relay. Additionally he was part of two other relays that finished 2nd and 3rd. Pheal was on all
three of those top three relays and placed two slots behind Spencer in the 400.
Avrey Collier finished 3rd in both hurdles races and was on relays that finished 2nd and 3rd.
Colton Spencer was second in the 400, ran on a 2nd and 3rd place relay teams, and added a 5th. Head was second in the
3,200 run, placed 4th in the 1,600 and was on that champion relay team. Aaron Johnson joined Spencer, Head and Rogers with an individual 2 nd in a field event, the discus. Thomas ran 5th in the 3,200 to go along with his leg of that winning relay.
Russellville Coach Dennis Sydnor didn’t have depth on his side, but he did have two Panthers win their events. DaVonte Bryant won the 400 in a field of
22 runners with Logan’s Spencer tying for second behind him with Pheal just back of them in 4th.
Panther Quinton Calloway won the triple jump and placed 5th in the long jump.
In middle school action, Logan’s Corey Ford was 3rd in the 1,600 while Collin Rostampour placed 5th in the long jump.
