When the University of Louisville women’s basketball program decided to highlight for Lady Cardinals, there first choice was a graduate of Logan County High School. The salute began:

“As we celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth, we salute alums who have gone on to succeed in all walks of life. Cindy Huffines applied the determination and teamwork she learned from her playing days to a successful career as a police officer.”

The article notes that Huffines was twice named Police Officer of the Year in Metro Nashville.

When interviewed for the honor, she said, “My years at UofL taught me about life and how to move forward as a person, not matter what the obstacles. Grateful”

When asked about the biggest lesson she learned as a player, she said, “I have quit one in my life—just once. I haven’t quit since then. Cancer, personal life, and I learned always be a team player.”

She didn’t say what she was referring to as quitting, but it could have been when she left NCAA Louisville and stepped down to NAIA Lindsey Wilson College. Her career at LWC was a great success.

Cindy Huffines attended Russellville Middle School but spent her high school years at Logan County High School in the second year of the high school’s existence. Coach Jim Thompson’s Lady Cougars were among the region’s best in the 1980s, and Cindy Huffines was a big reason why.

She was part of a Lady Cougar front line in 1986 that included three future Division I basketball players. The others were the University of Kentucky’s Lora Spencer and Austin Peay’s Tracie Mason.

She was inducted into the Logan County Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame in 2020. This is what The Logan Journal had to say about her then:

Cindy Huffines played outstanding basketball for the Lady Cougars during her high school years. She was a rugged rebounder and accurate outside shooter on a Logan front line that featured three NCAA Division I players. She played a season for the University of Louisville and three years for Lindsey-Wilson College where almost 30 years later she is still the all-time leading free throw shooter.

“Huffines set a single season scoring record for a Lady Cougar with 563 points, scored 1,152 career points and grabbed 594 career rebounds. She was Fourth Region Player of the Year in 1987. She was two-time all-region and three time all-district. She has spent her adult life as an award-winning policewoman, serving Metro Nashville for over 25 years.:
