Logan team earn success at state and multi-state events

Catching up on some impressive performances by Logan County High School teams which have previously not been reported by The Logan Journal.

State champions in various sports were Hunter Holloway, Addison Connelly, Eli Hawkins, Jacob White, Emerson McKinnis, Bella Gaddis, Cole Christmas, Landon Bohanan, and Carolina Gwynette.

JROTC Rifle and Archery

Logan County JROTC put together an outstanding finish to its JROTC Rifle season at the 7th Brigade 5-State Championship tournament, competing against the top JROTCs from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Logan’s Advanced Team 1 took second place out of 36 teams, and Advanced Team 2 took eighth out of 36. The Novice team took third place out of 25 teams. Team 2 Novice finished in the middle of the pack because it was short one shooter due to illness.

Individual top finishers:

Advanced-Addison Connelly 4th, Lily Henderson 6th, Bayleigh Connelly 13th, Brett Triplett 15th and Ian May 17th (out of 126 shooters)

Novice-Katie Fox 3rd, Kaleb Gipson 4th, Isabell Sanders 12th, Derek Ferguson 14th (out of 95 shooters)

In the Archery Tournament, the Female Champion was Carolina Gwynette!

A few weeks earlier, in Team competition, the Cougars took second in the State Tournament in the New Shooter Category and third in the state in the Advance category . The Advanced competition was very close. The champions won with a 2019, second place was 2016, and the Cougars had 2013.

Addison Connelly was tournament state champion!

Elijah Head was fifth.

Kaleb Gipson third place

LeStat Boisseau fourth place

Mike Triplett heads the Logan County JROTC teams.

Indoor Track

 

The Cougars/Lady Cougars “put on a show” at the Class 2A State Indoor Track meet!!

Finishes:

Hunter Holloway- State champ in the high jump, third place in the long jump

Aubreanna Evans- third in shot put

Nia Scipio- seventh in the long jump, tenth in the high jump

Elijah Sells is the Cougar track coach.

Powerlifting

Logan fielded six state champions in different sports, weight, age and gender divisions. Leading the way was senior football star Elit Hawkins, who not only won his age group but also was named Outstanding Lifter after posting the most weight lifted in both the Bench Press and Power Clean.

Cheerleading

Logan County’s cheerleaders were national finalists at Disneyworld. The LoJo would appreciate someone sharing a list of the cheerleaders for us to publish.
