For the third straight season, the Logan County Volleyball team has earned a berth in the state Class 2A Tournament. Two years ago. they won that state championship, and Coach Caleb Sheffield’s team hopes to do the same thing this week.
The Lady Cougars traveled to Glasgow on Saturday to compete in the 2A Sectional tournament. In the semifinals, the Lady Cougars defeated Allen County-Scottsville 3-0. They followed that up with a five-set thriller against Warren East in the Championship game. The Lady Cougars were able to make some big plays down the stretch to pull out the 3-2 win and advance to the 2A State Tournament this weekend in Owensboro.
In that 3-0 sweep of AC-S. senior star Aubrey Sears recorded 18 kills, 2 block assists and 5 digs. Kambell Porter was the assist leader with 22 and she added 3 digs, 2 kills and 2 digs.
Lydia Powens was the digs leader with 11, one ahead of Lindy Mitchell. Emily Mitchell and Ashley McIntosh led with 4 block assists. Owens was also the service ace leader with 7, Chaney Barrow and Kirsten Harris had 2 assists each. Harris also had 4 digs and Barrow 3.
Neither Logan County nor Warren East has reported the results or statistics for their match to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
