The Logan County Lady Cougars ended a three-game losing streak impressively by winning the H&H Holiday Hoopfest in a big way last weekend. Coach Dedra Adler’s team got wins over two Tennessee teams.

On Friday they blasted Clarksville Northeast 66-18 and then beat East Robertson 50-44 in the championship game.

Four Lady Cougars scored in double figures among the 11 who scored in that first-round romp. Freshman Brenley Adler and senior TaKylah Mason led with 13 points each while sophomore Reese Wetton added 11 and freshman Avery Thompson 10.

Also scoring were senior Kyla Bilyeu, freshman Alissa Hampton, sophomore Addison Holloway, eighth grader Britton Wetton and seventh grader Alissa Reding.

Logan was 5 of 17 from 3-point range with Mason and Adler hitting two each and Reese Wetton one.

The Lady Cougars shot 54 percent from the field, including 22 of 33 from inside the arch for 66 percent. Hampton and Reese Wetton hit all three of their two-point shots while Thompson went 4 of 5 and Bilyeu and Mason each 3 of 4.

Reese Wetton and Thompson each hit both of their free throw attempts, but the team struggled at the line at 7 of 17.

Since there were very few offensive rebound opportunities, the Lady Cougars pulled in just 26 rebounds, led by six by Player of the Game Adler. Among those getting a rebound were freshman Reece Bush and eighth grader Anslee Buchanan.

Brenley Adler had a strong performance for the Lady Cougars in both scoring and rebounding in the championship game with 14 points and 5 rebounds. The board total was second on the team behind Bilyeu’s 7 while the points were second to Reese Wetton’s 16. Adler hit all 4 of her free throw attempts and 5 of 11 from two-point range.

The Lady Cougars shot accurately as a team, hitting 19 of 32 shots from inside the arc and  a much-improved 8 of 11 on foul shots. Wetton, who was named Player of the Game, led the way with 6 of 8 shots inside the arc.

Three-point shooting didn’t go as well. Logan was just 2 of 12 long range with the connections coming from Holloway and Mason.

Following Wetton and Adler in scoring were Mason and Holloway with 7 each and Bilyeu with 6. Behind Bilyeu and Adler in rebounding were Mason and Holloway with 4 each and Wetton with 3.

Also playing for Coach Adler were Thompson and Hampton.

In addition to H&H Sheet Metal, the tournament was sponsored by Roy's BBQ, First Southern National Bank, Daniel Beaty Construction, Owen Transportation Services (OTS) Logistics, and Gerald Screen Printing.

The Lady Cougars, now 5-4, play Coach Matt Walls’ Great Crossings team Friday at Bryan Station High School in the Defender Classic at 2 p.m. Lexington time.
