For the third outing in a row Tuesday, the Logan County Lady Cougars lost a one-run game. But this one might have been more painful, since LCHS scored 18 runs and it was a district game.

In eight innings, the Todd Central Lady Rebels won 19-18 to earn a share of district leadership with Russellville, which was beating Franklin-Simpson at the same time.

It was the second extra-inning loss in three games for the Lady Cougars.

Here’s a look at those three losses:

Todd Central 19, Lady Cougars 18

The team’s most experienced varsity player, Madelyn Burgess, struggled mightily on the mound, but she had a tremendous game on offense. She came to the plate six times, singling four times and walking the other two.

Adding three hits each were Reese Wetton, Kallie Taylor and Caris Taylor. Wetton scored three runs and stole two bases while Caris Taylor, who tripled twice, added two runs. Kallie Taylor also stole a base.

Haley Henson was on the mound when the winning run scored and was accordingly tagged with the loss, but she only gave up one earned run while striking out four and had by far the lowest earned run average of Logan’s three pitchers. On offense, she doubled twice and drove in three runs.

Eighth grader Macie Clinard drove in four runs and scored two. Addison Holloway singled, walked, stole a base and scored. Brenley Adler singled in a run and scored twice.

Emalye Lowery scored three runs, Kinsley Taylor two, and Ellie Celsor and Sadie Violette one each.

Coach Gary Gettings chose Addison Cartas as the starting pitcher, and she gave up four runs on four hits and a walk. Half of the runs were unearned.

In the next 2.2 innings, the Lady Cougars gave up 13 runs, but only seven of them were earned. Errors more than pitching did Logan in. Only 10 of the 19 runs they allowed were earned.

For Todd Central, Addison Woodall had a game to remember. She pitched all of regulation and got two outs in the eighth before giving way to Abby Craig, who gave up five runs (one earned) before getting the final out. On offense, Woodall tripled, doubled, walked, stole a base, and totaled four each of RBIs and runs.

Auburey Perone doubled twice among her four hits and scored three runs. Dakotah Gammon added three hits, three runs and two RBIs. Naomi Welborn and Olivia Weikel got two hits each with Ella Hall, Isabelle Hightower and Madison Wade each singling.

Wade scored three runs for Coach Casey Williams’ team, and Avery Kingman and Hall added two each.

Warren East 4, Lady Cougars 3

Young players went deep for Logan. Both freshman Adler and eighth grader Clinard homered. Clinard’s was a two-run shot with Wetton scoring ahead of her.

East’s Autumn Brooks held the Lady Cougars to three runs while she was getting two hits herself. Kynleigh Barrick also had two hits including a double. She scored one of the crucial runs as did Lydia Jones, Laylee Jones and Kenzie Upton. Coach Jennifer Brooks’ team, which is now 4-1.

Cartas pitched well for Logan, working eight innings and getting an out in the ninth. She gave up five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Only two of the four runs were earned.

The Lady Cougars managed six hits, three runs and two walks. The other four hits besides the homers were singles. Burgess got two of them with the others going to Kallie Taylor and Holloway.
