After Gators edge Cougars 2-0 in season opener, Logan shuts out MN-H

Despite a super showing by starting pitcher Jonas Hayes, the Logan County Cougars dropped a 2-0 decision at Greenwood Tuesday in the season baseball opener.

Hayes—one of seven sophomores to start for what appears to be the youngest team In the 43 seasons of Cougar baseball—pitched four scoreless innings. He gave up only two hits and one walk while striking out five.

Freshman Keeton Wright pitched the final two innings. He gave up the two runs on four hits but didn’t walk anyone.

Logan’s four hits were singles by four hitters—senior Drew McLellan, sophomores Will McCarley and Hayes, and junior Bryar Gaddis.

Freshman Odin Wood came into the game as a pinch runner and stole the only base the Cougars attempted.

Two days later, not only did the Cougars play in a shutout again, but they also returned the favor against visiting Madisonville-North Hopkins. Logan won 4-0.

Senior Brody Bush was the starting and winning pitcher. He gave up only two hits in four innings while stroking out four and walking three.

Sophomore Mason Davenport was also impressive on the mound, hurling three scoreless innings. He allowed two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

On offense, the Cougars got six hits, five singles and a double by sophomore Lyndon Wilson. Gaddis singled twice with sophomores TySean Thomeczek, Landon Gregory, Hancock and Lyndon Wilson getting one each.

Thomeczek scored two runs with Hancock and Gregory crossing the plate on the other two. Gaddis, Thomeczek and Wilson were each credited with an RBI. Gregory, Hancock, and Thomeczek each walked. Gregory and Wood each stole a base. Sophomore Hayden Cartas was hit by a pitch.

After 13 innings, three of the four Cougar pitchers who have appeared on the mound have not given up a run.
