Two Logan County Lady Cougars who are completing their freshman year in high school this week have added a new title this spring—state champions.

Maegann Hardison and Kapreshia Powell are starters for the 9th Grade Kentucky Blast Girls Basketball team who were crowned Kentucky State 9th Grade AAU Champions the weekend of May 11-13 at Kentucky Basketball Academy's AAU 2012 State Tournament. They went a perfect 5-0 through pool and tournament play.

“Kapreshia was a rebounding force against the Louisville Legends, a team comprised of four players over 6 foot, and Maegann hit a free throw with less than four seconds left to ice the championship game for a 42-39 win,” says Blast head coach Scot MacAllister, who is also their coach at Logan County High School.

Other team members are Maddie Crumbaker and Hannah Render of McLean County, Kasey Werner of Oldham County, Sydney Jones of South Oldham, Kristen Keeney of Webster County and Abbey Hinton of Westmoreland, Tenn. Keith Jones of South Oldham is the assistant coach, and veteran coach Bobby Cook of Bowling Green directs Blast basketball.

Earlier this spring, the Blast finished fifth at the 2012 Heart of Texas Showcase Exposure Event, South Carolina Division, and then was runner-up at the Midwest Youth “Battle of the Borders” in Louisville. Their current overall record is 15-6.
