After suffering a rare loss to a regional team last Tuesday, the Logan County volleyball team bounced back in a big way by beating Todd Central 25-10, 25-6 at Elkton Thursday. It was the 68th straight victory over a district opponent by the Lady Cougars.

That loss came to a very good team. Bowling Green came to LCHS and won 25-23, 18-25, 27-25, 25-22 in a very close match involving regional powerhouses. The teams played a best-three-of-four format, which will be used in postseason play for the first time this year.

Even in the loss, the Lady Cougars had impressive stats. They recorded a staggering 77 digs, with Maddie Abbott getting 20, Victoria Cates 17, Rachyl Miller 14, Chanler Steenbergen 13 and Rebecca Dezarn 10. Allison Basehart led the Lady Purples with 17.

More big numbers: Cates had 37 service receptions, Dezarn 18 and Abbott 11. Basehart topped BGH with 11 while Meagan Ward added 10. Cates was credited with 36 attacks, Dezarn 33, Katelyn Jones 27 and Megan Griggs 18. From those, Dezarn had 13 kills, Steenbergen 11, Griggs 9 and Jones 7. Lajoyla Whitney had 10 and Vanessa Bolton 9 of the Lady Purples’ 37 kills.

Steenbergen, a freshman, fired 8 aces with Griggs and Miller getting 2 each. Ward had 3 aces for the winners and Maggie Whotjen 3. Jones had 11 blocks and Griggs 9 for Logan while Bolton got 3 for BGH.

Two players dominated assists statistics. Miller set up 24 for the Lady Cougars while Ward had 23 for Bowling Green.

The statistics weren’t as impressive against Todd Central because the match lasted only 66 points, as compared to 190 in the BGH contest.

Steenbergen had 12 kills on 17 attacks while Dezarn was 6 of 8. Griggs popped in 6 aces with Miller getting 5, Abbott 2, and Brianna Wooden, Cates and Dezarn 1 each. Jones had 2 blocks and Griggs 1.

Miller got all 19 assists while Abbott had 4 digs, Dezarn 3, and Brittany Harper and Cates 2 each.

Cates handled 6 of the 13 receptions.

The win ran Coach Steven Lyne’s team’s record to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the district. The Lady Cougars will entertain district opponent Franklin-Simpson Tuesday evening.
