Big Red, one of the most loveable mascots in all of athletics, has been honored as the first-ever inductee into the Capital One Mascot Challenge Hall of Fame.

Big Red has competed eight times in the 11 years of the Capital One Mascot Challenge and has been a staple on the Western Kentucky University campus for over 30 years. Capital One cites Big Red's spirited attitude and undying support of WKU's athletic programs as reasons for the induction before any other mascot.

"Big Red was so excited when it heard the news," Paula Davids, one of Big Red's best friends and interpreter, said. "It stood there with its mouth wide open at first, but then quickly started shaking its belly, pumping its fist in the air and looking for things to eat in excitement. Big Red is very appreciative of the honor and thanks everyone in Hilltopper Nation and beyond for the support. Big Red loves nothing more than to see the smiles on the faces of WKU fans while at games, right before it eats some of his or her popcorn or snatches the hat right off their head!"

"College sports fans are as enthusiastic about their mascots as they are about their football teams, and we are proud to host a program where that excitement can be amplified," Managing Vice President of Advertising and Sponsorships at Capital One Roger Ferguson said. "A special congratulations to Big Red on the Hall of Fame induction."
