Lady Cougars wear Silver at Central Hardin

With a 4-1 record, the Logan County Lady Cougars won the Silver division of the Central Hardin Queens of the Court volleyball tournament this weekend. Coach Steven Lyne’s team won both matches Friday night, but a loss to Pulaski Southwestern Saturday morning dropped them into the Silver bracket rather than the Gold. Logan’s Ladies bounced back to win their final two matches, including one in split games in the finals against North Bullitt.

The win advanced Logan’s season record to 16-3, setting up a marquee match Tuesday night against visiting Greenwood. The Lady Cougars and Lady Gators have met in seven of the last nine regional championship matches.

In a 25-11, 25-14 win over Louisville Fern Creek to open competition, Victoria Cates served five aces and returned 14 serves. Chanler Steenbergen and Rachyl Miller each fired four aces.

Next came  25-15, 25-15 victory over Calloway County. Miller had 8 digs, 5 aces  and 21 assists. Steenbergen added 5 aces and Megan Griggs 4

The loss to Southwestern was decisive, 25-17, 25-12. Miller was held to 10 assists. She averaged 20.5 in the other four matches.

Logan next beat Franklin County 26-24, 25-23 in a tight match. Steenbergen, a freshman, had 24 attacks and 13 kills. Miller had 23 assists while Maddie Abbott totaled 11 digs and Cates 9.

North Bullitt won the first game of the championship match 25-20, but then the Lady Cougars took over, winning the last two 25-11, 25-13. Miller piled up impressive statistics, getting 26 assists, 11 digs and 4 aces. Dezarn returned 15 serves and had 9 digs. Cates returned 22 serves, and Steenbergen led with 5 aces.
