Coming within one error of a perfect game, sophomore Caleb Bruner pitched a no-hit shutout Tuesday as his Logan County Cougars beat visiting Todd Central 11-0 in a district contest.

Todd’s Jared England reached on a two-out infield single to become the only baserunner for Coach Mark Brooks’ Rebels. Bruner struck out nine of the visitors.

The Cougars banged out 14 hits against Todd pitching. Matt Guinn was the starter for the Rebels.

Logan won big on small ball. Dustin Cartas’ double was the only extra base hit for the Cougars, and he had three RBIs. Bruner’s three singles drove in three runs. Cartas, Ian Woodall and Cody Hunt each had two hits. Leadoff hitter Gage Hales had a hit and walked twice, scoring all three times. Matt Harper, Ryan Basham, Arik Hayes and Blake Gettings added a hit each. Woodall drove in a pair of runs. Hunt scored two runs with Joe Holliday, Luke Woodall, Tucker Baldwin, Harper, Basham, and Haynes each scoring once.

Holliday was hit by a pitch and reached on an error. He stole a pair of bases. Hales and Hunt also stole a base.

The Cougars of Coach Ethan Meguiar ended a two-game losing streak and ran their record to 17-7, including 4-1 in the district and 9-4 in the region. Todd fell to 2-20.

With Russellville coming close (2-1) but losing at Franklin-Simpson Tuesday, the Cougars must win at F-S next Tuesday to earn a tie for first in 13th District standings with the Wildcats.
