The visiting Logan County Lady Cougars jumped on Warren Central with five runs in the first inning on the way to a 12-6 win by Coach Michael Crawford’s team Tuesday. It was Logan’s second win in two days and third in the last five games.

Then two days later, the same two teams met again, also at Central. Once again, the Lady Cougars got a big lead. They were up 10-0 in the middle of the fourth inning. But Logan never scored again, and Central tallied three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 11-10.

In the first inning of the win, Maddie Abbott reached on an error, Sierra Morrow singled, and Victoria Cates doubled both of them in. Shelby Browning singled, and Jonique Smith singled in courtesy runner Kayla Hazel. Browning, however, was thrown out trying to take third. Megan Griggs followed with an RBI double, scoring Smith. Megan Ferguson became the second freshman (with Morrow) to get a hit in the inning. When the Central left fielder had trouble handling the ball, Griggs scored the fifth run of the inning.

Griggs added two singles to that double and finished with four RBIs. Getting two hits each were Cierra Johnson, Smith, Cates and Browning. Rebecca Dezarn joined Ferguson and Morrow with a single.

Cates and Ferguson drove in two runs each with Abbott, Smith and Johnson getting one RBI each. Abbott reached on errors twice with Morrow and Ferguson also reaching once on a Lady Dragon blunder. Dezarn was hit by a pitch while Browning and Jordyn Belcher each stole a base.

Shelby Milam pitched most of the game with relief help from Ferguson.

In Thursday’s game, Logan played long ball early. Abbott and Morrow started the game by walking. Cates doubled in Abbott. Morrow was thrown out at home, but Cates took third on the play. Rachel Barnett doubled in courtesy runner Belcher. Claire Dancer came close to driving in Barnett, but her ground ball to third was fielded cleanly to end the inning.

Ferguson joined Cates and Barnett with doubles and she also singled, driving in a pair of runs in the process. Milam also had a hit. Morrow had two RBIs with Cates, Barnett and Johnson adding one each. Abbott and Browning reached on errors.

Milam and Ferguson pitched in this game, too.

The Lady Cougars are scheduled to play their final regular season game Friday at South Warren.
