Spring showers permitting, Logan County's diamond teams will spend Memorial Day the way they usually do, playing in regional tournaments. Both the baseball Cougars and the softball Lady Cougars are part of quadruple headers on this holiday.
The Cougars (12-15), who were the runner-up in District 13, will go against 16th District champion Russell County (18-11) in the first game of the day on either field. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 10 a.m. at the WKU baseball field.
At 1 p.m. 13th District champion Logan County (10-12) will play 15th District runner-up Barren County (17-16) at the softball field.
Logan has two of only three teams among the 18 reaching regional with losing records. LCHS, however, is one of just four schools with teams in both the boys and the girls divisions. There are 16 schools in the Fourth Region.
In baseball, the Cougars and Russell County have not played previously during this season. Also in the bracket are Warren Central (23-8) and Barren County (15-15). Coach Ethan Meguiar's team has split with Central and lost 9-5 to Barren in the second game of the season.
The Lady Cougars lost to Barren County 10-3 on April 27. Other teams in their bracket are Warren East and Clinton County. The Lady Cougars have lost twice to East but have not met Clinton this season. Nine of Logan's 10 wins this year have come against the other three 13th District teams.
Both semifinals which could involve a Logan team are scheduled at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Championship games are scheduled Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for baseball and Thursday at 6:30 for softball.
