The Red Sox were the number three seed going into the 9-10 year-old division of the Logan County Little League Tournament last week, but Coach Travis Hurt’s team played well in the tournament to take the title.

Another team that beat the odds was Coach Mark Sears’ Yankees, who were the number four seed. Seedings were based on season records.

The Red Sox started the tourney with a win over the sixth seeded Braves, coached by Brian Hendrix. The Yankees started postseason action by winning over the fifth-seeded Pirates. Then the Yankees opened up the semis by eliminating the top seed, Coach Jon Barrow’s Rangers. Hurt's Red Sox reached the finals by defeating the number two seed, the Orioles coached by John Myers.

The championship was a thriller with Hurt's Red Sox trailing 10-2 after three innings. They fought back, winning the game 13-12 with a string of hot bats and a shutdown pitching performance by Preston Hurt, who entered the game as pitcher late in the third.
