Making a silent but bold statement, the Logan County Lady Cougars made it clear to the rest of Western Kentucky this weekend that they will be a team to be contended with again when the high school volleyball season resumes in August.

Coach Steven Lyne’s team started the day Saturday with a 2-0 win over Owensboro Catholic and ended it with a 2-0 win over Catholic. In between they had three other wins, all in straight games. Those three opponents were Henderson County, Pulaski Southwestern and Owensboro Senior High.

The event was called the Summer Play Date in Owensboro. Matches were played at Owensboro Catholic’s K-3 Center and at Daviess County High School.

Coach Steven Lyne’s team returns extensive experience from last year’s 29-8 squad, losing only four seniors—Megan Griggs, Rebecca Dezarn, Brittany Harper and Breanna Whittaker. In the process, the Lady Cougars won their 10th straight 13th District championship and their 72nd straight district match.

The season ended a little more abruptly than usual, however, when the Lady Cougars lost in the first round of the Fourth Region Tournament. They had reached the finals in eight of the previous nine seasons.

Rob Imlay, James Imlay and Tim Hopkins assist Lyne in coaching the team.
