The Logan County Lady Cougars not only won four of five matches in the Queens of the Court volleyball tournament at Central Hardin High School this weekend, but they only lost twice in 11 games. Unfortunately both of those losses came to Cooper High School in the fourth round.
Coach Steven Lyne’s team beat Lexington Bryan Station, John Hardin, Daviess County and Boone County in straight games.
In a 25-20, 25-15 win over Bryan Station, Kapreshia Powell had 5 kills with Brianna Wooden, Savannah Shelton and Chanler Steenbergen adding 4 each and Rachyl Miller 3. Steenbergen had 19 attacks, Powell 12 and Wooden 11. Katelyn Jones and Steenbergen served 2 aces each with Victoria Cates, Catherine Miller and Shelton each firing one. Shelton and Cates each had 100 percent serving accuracy with Jones at 90.9 Wooden and Jones each were credited with 2 blocks while Rachyl Miller and Steenbergen blocked 1 each.
Steenbergen had 15 digs with Cates and Catherine Miller getting 6 each and Powell, Shelton and Rachyl Miller adding 4 each. Rachyl Miller got all 18 assists for her team.
Also on Friday, Logan beat nearby John Hardin 25-15, 25-17. Wooden and Steenbergen had 3 kills each with Abbott, Powell and Jones getting 2 each. Steenbergen attacked the ball 12 times with Wooden and Abbott each adding 8 attacks.
Steenbergen aced John Hardin on 6 serves while Shelton added a pair. Wooden blocked 2 shots with Jones and Steenbergen getting 1 each. Rachyl Miller pulled out 5 digs with Cates getting 4 and Wooden, Powell and Steenbergen 3 each. Rachyl Miller put up 7 assists. Abbott was the receiver on 10 serves and Cates 8
The day started Saturday with a 25-17, 25-14 win over Daviess County, which is to come to LCHS for a regular season match Tuesday evening. Steenbergen had 6 kills, Jones 5, and Wooden and Powell 4 each. Steenbergen was credited with 15 attacks with Maddie Abbott and Powell adding 12 each.
Steenbergen and Rachyl Miller each fired 3 aces with Abbott and Cates also getting 1. Jones blocked 2 shots while Wooden, Steenbergen and Rachyl Miller knocked one back each. Cates totaled 11 digs and Abbott 8. Rachyl Miller piled up 19 assists with Catherine Miller picking up one. Abbott received 9 serves, Cates 6, Catherine Miller 5 and Amber Carroll and Shelton 2 each.
The lone loss to Cooper of the Ninth Region came Saturday. Coach Michelle Isaac’s team won12-25, 25-23, 25-18. This was only the second loss of the season for the Lady Cougars with the other having been handed out by fellow regional power Bowling Green. Cooper ended the tournament with a season record of 11-4 while Logan finished 9-2.
Steenbergen had 8 kills, Powell 6, Jones 5 and freshman Jacqueline Batchelor 2. Powell pounded 28 attacks, Steenbergen 26, and Jones and Batchelor 12 each in the three-game match. Rachyl Miller fired 5 aces and Carroll 3. Jones blocked 4 shots with Wooden, Steenbergen and Rachyl Miller each recording 1.
Cates had 14 digs, Abbott 13, Rachyl Miller 6, Steenbergen 5, and Powell and freshmen Carroll and Batchelor 4 each. Rachyl Miller piled up 20 assists with Molly Latham adding the only other one the team accumulated. Cates returned 31 serves and Powell 8.
Lyne’s team bounced back with a 25-17, 25-19 win over Boone County, which is in the same region as Cooper. Steenbergen had 7 kills with Wooden and Powell getting 4 each and Abbott 2. Steenbergen totaled 20 attacks and Powell 10. Rachyl Miller was credited with 3 of Logan’s 6 assists.
Abbott had 12 digs, Rachyl Miler 6, Catherine Miller 5, and Jones and Wooden 4 each. Rachyl Miller picked up 14 of the 16 assists with Cates and Powell adding 1 each. Cates returned 12 serves, Catherine Miller 5 and Abbott 4.
Also playing in this tournament for Logan County were sophomore Chelsey Hopkins and freshman Maranda Wright.
