Teams from Russellville and Logan County will join 12 other teams in opening play in the First Southern National Bank Christmas Class 2013 on Thursday, Dec. 26. Eight boys teams and eight girls teams are part of the annual event played at both high schools’ gyms.

The Panthers and Lady Panthers get to play at home in Jim Young Gymasium the first two days. Coach Justin McClellan’s team will move to LCHS on Saturday, since all girls games will be played there for final placements.

The opposite is true for Logan County. Games for both teams will be at LCHS Thursday and Friday, but Coach Lonnie Mason’s Cougars will go to RHS for one of the four final games there.

The Lady Cougars are defending champions of the girls division, and most of the players are the same. A new coach, Finley Woodard, is at the helm however.

In the girls division at RHS Thursday, the Lady Panthers will meet Trigg County at 6. Hopkins County Central and Spencer County open female action there at 2 p.m. The Panther boys open play at home at 7:30 Thursday. The first boys action at Jim Young Gymnasium finds Central Hardin meeting University Heights Academy at 3 p.m.

At LCHS, the first game of the day is a girls match-up between Livingston Central and North Hardin. The Lady Cougars open play at 6:30 against Middlesboro. Coach Lonnie Mason’s Cougars play their first game at 8 p.m. against Pickett County from Tennessee. The other two teams in that bracket are also from the Volunteer State. Spring Hill and Clarksville Northwest tip off at 4 p.m.

Friday’s semifinals in both the winners’ and losers’ brackets will be played Friday. Action begins at LCHS at 11:30 a.m. and at RHS at 11.

The girls championship game will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday at LCHS while the boys finals will tip off at 4 at RHS.

FSNB Deposit Business Development Officer Holli Brown is tournament manager, as always.
