Lady Cougars to open region against South Warren Monday

The pairings have been set for the Region 4 girls basketball tournament scheduled to start Monday at Allen County-Scottsville High School in Scottsville. 

Coach Finley Woodard’s Logan County Lady Cougars are scheduled to play the second game of the upper bracket on Monday night. Champions of the 13th District, the Lady Cougars (13-14) are paired against District 14 runner-up South Warren (22-8). Coach Blaine Embry’s Lady Spartans beat Logan 58-44 on Feb. 18, but the Lady Cougars had also lost twice to Franklin-Simpson before upsetting the Lady Cats in the championship game.

Coach Justin Stinson’s Class A state champion and District 15 champion Glasgow (26-6) opens the tournament Monday at 6 p.m. against District 16 runner-up Russell County (14-14). The nightcap, 25 minutes following the conclusion of the opening game, will feature Logan and South Warren.

Tuesday action starts at 6 p.m. when District 14 champion Bowling Green (20-5) faces District 15 runner-up Allen County-Scottsville (27-3). The second game will have District 16 champion Clinton County (15-14) pitted against District 13 runner-up Franklin-Simpson (23-5).

The Region 4 tournament semifinals will be played on Friday, March 7 starting with upper-bracket action at 6 p.m. at Patriot Gym. The championship game is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 8.      

Tickets for all nights will be $6 at the door.  Gates will open at 5 p.m. each night.

Tournament public relations coordinator Don Meador notes, “Tournament officials will be monitoring the weather situation in the coming 24-48 hours. If weather becomes an issue Monday, tournament officials will make a decision by 2 p.m. Monday afternoon with regard to scheduled games and tournament status.”
