The Logan County Cougars split their last two games this week, beating Warren Central 8-2 before losing 3-1 to Caldwell County Saturday.
Coach Ethan Meguiar’s team led Central 4-2 before putting the victory away with a four-run fifth inning. Jackson Campbell and Hunter Britt each had an RBI in the inning. They each were credited with two RBIs in the game.
Jacob Wood and Harper each had two hits with Joe Holliday and Caleb Bruner adding one each. Ian Woodall walked twice while Tucker Baldwin, Holliday, Harper, Bruner and Campbell worked a free pass each. Holliday and Baldwin each scored two runs; Wood, Harper, Bruner and Jose Arostegui tallied one each. Bruner, who had an RBI, got the only extra base hit for the winners with a double.
Hunter Britt was the complete game winner. He allowed two runs on five hits and three strikeouts. Neither of the runs was earned. He faced 26 batters and threw a first-pitch strike to 16 of them. In all, 55 of his 76 pitches were strikes.
Tanner Clark had an RBI single for Coach Daniel Thomas’ Dragons. Austin Marciw, Mark Emerson, J.M. Lyle and LaDarius Mitchell also got hits for Central. Lyle took the loss, giving up four runs on three hits in four innings. Marciw pitched the final three innings, allowing seven hits and four runs. They did strike out seven Cougars.
Then Saturday the Cougars fell 3-1 to visiting Caldwell County. Holliday pitched well enough to win. He only gave up one run on one hit in the regulation seven innings before allowing two runs on one hit with one out in the eighth. The senior struck out 12 Tigers and walked only two. The runs weren’t earned. Harper got the final two outs, one coming on a strikeout. Holliday threw 107 pitches with 72 of them going for strikes. He threw first-pitch strikes to 20 of the 28 batters he faced.
Jordan Young got the win in relief. Elijah Sindelar, the all-state quarterback who is also an outstanding basketball player, got the final out. Landon Burns pitched the first four innings.
Harper tripled for the Cougars, walked twice and scored when Ian Woodall singled him in for the home team’s only run. Also getting hits were Michael Riley, Baldwin and Bruner. Campbell and Ian Woodall joined Harper in drawing two walks. Bruner, Britt and Luke Woodall also walked.
Drake Vanhooser and Jase Ryan Felker got the lone hits for Coach Bradley Stallins’ winners. Sindelar, Chandler Blackburn and Felker scored the runs.
Caldwell, which improved its record to 3-12, had lost 16-3 to Coach Greg Shelton’s Russellville Panthers in the Florida Beach Bash during spring break.
The Cougars—now 10-5—are scheduled to play at Hopkinsville Monday and at Todd Central Tuesday before hosting Barren County, Graves County and Butler County Thursday, Friday and Saturday, respectively. The Butler game begins at 12:30 p.m.
