The Logan County Lady Cougars experienced both a start and a continuance Tuesday when they beat district opponent Franklin-Simpson 3-0 to open the 2014 season. Some things stay the same, thought. It was the 81st district win in a row for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars won their 11th straight 13th District volleyball championship last October, beating host Franklin-Simpson 25-7, 25-7, 25-5 in the finals. Logan had beaten Todd Central and F-S had upset Russellville in opening rounds. The two wins ran Coach Steven Lyne's team's district win streak to 80 straight matches.

Logan then went on to win its second regional championship and to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Tuesday, Lyne’s team won over the Lady Cats 25-13, 25-14, 25-8.

The statistical leaders, according to Assistant Coach James Imlay, were as follows:

Attacks: Chanler Steenbergen 15, Maranda Wright 11, Brianna Wooden & Kapresha Powell 8 each

Kills: Steenbergen 11, Wright 5, Chelsey Hopkins, Wooden & Powell 3 each, Kerra Cornist 2

Service Attempts: Catherine Miller 23, Amber Carroll 16, Steenbergen 11, Jaclyn Batchelor 8, LeeAnn Coots 7

Aces: Miller & Carroll 8 each, Steenbergen 5, Batchelor 2, Sierra Morrow, Molly Latham & Coots 1 each

Assists: Coots 13, Latham 8, Karrah Cron 2, Powell & Carroll 1 each

Receptions: Carroll 11, Powell 8, Steenbergen 5, Miller 2, Hopkins 1

Digs: Carroll 7, Batchelor 4, Hopkins & Coots 3 each, Miller 2, Kailee Moore, Cron and Coots 1 each

The Lady Cougars plan to celebrate their 15th anniversary of being a team Thursday night when they entertain South Warren, the team they beat in last year’s regional finals. All former coaches, players, and referees are invited to come celebrate with them and to be honored with refreshments. All alumni in attendance will be recognized immediately following the JV game.
