The Logan County cross country teams competed at the Mustang Stampede held at Muhlenberg County East campus. Coach Greg Howard observes, “Our kids are improving every day, and as a coach that’s very exciting. Our kids have embraced what it takes to excel at running and the small things that will make them better.”

The day started out with Ashtyn Cole (14:10.19) finishing 21st out of 114 runners in the girls elementary 3K race. At the same distance Price Violette came in 28th (13:14.79) out of 124 in his race.

Next came the boys and girls middle school races Tatum Beauchane finished 34th in 20:31.40 and Kile Todd 42nd in 21:47.19. Both girls were competing in their very first race and I am so proud of their effort. In the boys 4K, Tanner Morrow finished 8th in 14:44.54 and Zach Blake came in56th with a time of 17:06.98.

The varsity girls were led by freshman Meredith Johnson as she finished 13th in a time of 21:32.77. When the season began she put her sights on the girls 5K record of 21:03 set by Kelsey Hinton a few years ago. Her teammates running in their first race of the year were a pleasant surprise, Howard says. Fellow freshman Jessie Hankins finished in 59th with a time of 24:46.52, and teammate Addison Stewart came in 81st with a time of 27:18.12.

The boys varsity was led by senior Levi Crossley, who placed 10th with a time of 17:58.36. He was followed by freshman Gage Cousineau in 29th (18:55.39), sophomore Thomas Lyne 35th (19:14.62), senior Cory Ford 41st (19:31.00), freshman Conner Dill 51st (19:56.11), and sophomore Luke Belcher 115th(24:46.51).

“Our kids are so great and are on track to be peaking at the right time of the season,” Howard says.

The Cougars will be competing next Saturday at the Central Hardin fairgrounds meet in Hardin County. This will be the regional course they will compete in late October.

The Cougars will be hosting two invitationals in October. One will be on Saturday, Oct. 4, Land the other Saturday, Oct. 25. The first is the 23rd Annual Cougar Run and the latter the Western Kentucky Meet of Champions.

“We are seeking sponsorship for both, and if you or your business would like to sponsor either or both of our meets you can contact me at Logan County High School, 270-726-8454,” Howard says.
