Cougar Foundation taking nominations for new Hall of Fame

Through the efforts of the Logan County Cougar Foundation, a Hall of Fame to honor those who have made significant contributions to athletic programs in Logan County schools or who have been great successes in sports after graduation.

The inaugural class of the Hall will be inducted Friday, Feb. 6 when the basketball Clashes of the Cats are played at Logan County High School.

A committee headed by Richard Holloman has been working on the project for most of this year. But they are making effort to get everyone involved by taking nominations from the public. A copy of the nomination form can be found below.

Categories for Hall of Fame eligibility are Athlete, Coach, Alumnus/Alumna, and Contributor. Each of those categories is explained below.

One thing making this Hall unique is that graduates of the schools which preceded LCHS are also eligible. That would not only be Adairville, Auburn, Chandlers, Lewisburg and Olmstead, but also their predecessors such as Corinth, Gordonsville and Homer.

Nominees must have graduated at least eight years earlier than the year they are being considered. Coaches who are still active are not eligible.

At least one letter of recommendation is required and supporting materials are allowed.

First Southern National Bank is the sponsor for the first class of inductees.The Cougar Foundation Hall of Fame Committee Nomination Forms will be available at the front office at Logan County High School and or the Logan County High School web page, Logan County High School Cougar Foundation Facebook page, WRUS Web page,  and The Logan Journal (below).  Completed forms are to be returned to the front office of the high school to the attention ofLee Proctor and or mailed to the Logan County High School Cougar Foundation, PO Box 936, Russellville, Ky. 42276. Official Nomination Form: complete and return to the Logan County High School office

The information on this Nomination Form will be confidential and will be used by the Hall of Fame Committee. To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, individuals must have been a Logan County High School (s) athlete, alumni, coach, or contributor who has made significant contributions to the county’s high school athletic programs. The Hall of Fame is organized to recognize, honor and preserve the history of those athletes, coaches and individuals who have influenced the tradition of excellence through their achievements and contributions to the county’s high school athletic programs. The Hall of Fame honors the achievements/contributions of these individuals as examples for others to emulate.

CATEGORIES FOR RECOGNITION

ATHLETE: Any graduate who distinguished himself/herself in the field of athletics while a student in a Logan County high school. Criteria considerations should include All-State recognition, Kentucky All Star Team selection, individual state champions, state record holders, All-American recognition, Pro-selection, outstanding college accomplishments, and college scholarship recipient or collegiate participant. Other considerations may be taken into account but may not take the place of the above criteria. Should have graduated eight (8) years before becoming eligible. (Unusual / Exceptional circumstances may be considered.)

ALUMNUS/ALUMNA: Any person who distinguished himself / herself in the field of athletics after graduation from a Logan County High School.

COACH: Any Logan County high school who made significant contributions to the athletic program at their school. The nominee must be inactive to be eligible for consideration. Criteria consideration should be based on accomplishments that merit statewide recognition as well as significant contributions to the athletic programs.( Unusual / Exceptional circumstances may be considered.)

CONTRIBUTOR: An individual who has made outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletic programs other than playing and / or coaching.

Notes: A letter of recommendation from the person making the nomination, and other letters of support from appropriate individuals who can validate or substantiate pertinent information related to the nominee’s high school career are good. A limited number (up to 12) of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, copies of scorebooks and statistics may be included to help substantiate the accomplishments and contributions of the nominee. A suitable photograph should be submitted for reproduction.
