It’s Football Homecoming Week at Russellville High School, and even more activities than ever are planned this week. “We have a fun-filled week planned to celebrate,” says Principal Kim McDaniel.
Daily activities are planned, culminating Friday’s district game against Fulton City.
“We are also planning a Panther Homecoming Festival this year on Thursday evening. This festival is being hosted by the RHS Renaissance/Ambassador group which is being led by Ms. Heather Rickman,” McDaniel says. “One of the goals of this student-led team is to help build and promote school spirit by supporting all aspects of our school with both academics and athletics.”
The festival, which will be run similarly to fall festivals, will include a variety of activities such as inflatables (rock-climbing walls and jousting ring), corn-hole games, music/dancing, concessions, etc. The fun begins in the RHS lobby/gym at 5 p.m. on Oct. 16 and will conclude by 8. General admission will be $3.
Daily activities for RHS students are as follows:
Monday: Homecoming—SUPER FAN DAY—deck out in your favorite team gear from head to toe!
Tuesday: Homecoming—Mathletes vs. Athletes—come as your favorite geek or your favorite athlete!
Wednesday: Class Color War—Seniors—Red, Juniors—Black, Sophomores—Blue, Freshmen—Pink; 8th grade—Orange, 7th grade—Green, 6th Grade—Yellow
Thursday: Salad Day—Seniors—Caesar, Juniors—Ranch, Sophomores—Thousand Island, Freshmen—Italian

Additionally, the celebration of 75 years of Rhea Stadium will continue before the game. The 1964 team, which was Russellville’s first-ever state finalist squad, will be honored. All-state lineman Joe Hicks and standout running back Michael Benton will be honorary captains. All other members of the team, coaches, managers and cheerleaders are invited to join them on the field.

The game is important in its own right. Even though the Panthers (6-1) are heavy favorites over the Fulton Bulldogs (0-6), a district win is imperative for Coach John Myers’ Panthers to guarantee themselves a home game in the first round of the Class A playoffs.
WRUS will carry the game on 610 AM at 2 p.m. Saturday on a delayed basis with Chris McGinnis and Alex Watkins calling the action.
