On Saturday, Oct. 25, the Logan County Cougars hosted the 5th Annual Western Kentucky Meet of Champions. The number 2 was the number of the day, as Lady Cougar Meredith Johnson finished 2nd (22:02.70)in the Girls Varsity race, and the Varsity Cougars finished second in the boys race among nine teams.
Johnson, a freshman, took the lead from the start and held that lead until the last 800 meter. She met her match in a veteran runner, Erika Wallace, from Madisonville-North Hopkins as she passed her for the victory.
The Cougars were led by freshman Gage Cousineau as the Cougars fought their way to a second place behind the winners from Owensboro Apollo.
The Lady Cougars have been working hard and fighting injuries but the effort has remained remarkable. Eighth grader Kile Todd finished in 12th (27:42.60) followed by junior Addison Stewart 14th (28:01.40) and 7th grader Tatum Beauchane in 15th (28:06.00).
Ashtyn Cole finished in an impressive 6th place in the girls middle school race with a time of 15:00.80.
On the boys side, another freshman, Gage Cousineau, finished in 5th (19:05.70) and was followed by teammates Thomas Lyne in 7th (19:15.00), Levi Crossley 12th (19:51.80), Tanner Morrow 18th (20:30.40), Conner Dill 20th (20:32.90), and Luke Belcher 59th (26:36.40).
In the boys middle school race, Zach Baker finished in 14th (13:08.70) and Price Violette 16th (13:14.20).
“Both teams are extremely young and are on track to have very successful futures on both sides,” says Coach Greg Howard..
