Panthers edge AC-S for third straight win

Senior Lee McMurry led the way as the Russellville Panthers edged the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots on the road Tuesday. He scored 19 of Coach Phil Todd’s team’s 69 points in the three-point win. McMurry was also the leading rebounder with 8.

Jason Mitchell was second In both categories with 16 points and 6 rebounds; he also was credited with 4 steals. CoCo Darden joined them in double-figure scoring with 11 points and contributed 3 steals.

Pedro Bradshaw was once again plagued with foul trouble. He fouled out and was limited to 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Allen County out-rebounded the Panthers 41-29, including 17 on its offensive board. Big Dyllan Harper had 14 rebounds, including 8 on the home board. He scored 15 points. Jake Sikes led the Patriots with 22 points and Lucas Wood added 10.

The Panthers had a great second quarter, scoring 27 points to build a 43-30 halftime lead. They hit 4 of 6 three-point shots in the first half, and did even better as far as percentage by going 2 for 2 from long range in the next two quarters. That figures out to 75 percent for the game.

They needed that kind of shooting from behind the arc because they went just 9 of 18 for 50 percent from 15 feet at the foul line. They were 21 of 51 from 2-point distance in the game.

AC-S outscored the guests 36-26 in the second half to make it close, but still the Patriots got just 7 of 21 three-pointers and 17 of 27 free throws to fall.

A key to the game was the Panthers committing only 13 turnovers as compared to the home team’s 21.

This was Russellville’s third straight road win following a home loss to Logan County.
