WKU legends Lillie Mason of Olmstead and Bobby Rascoe of Owensboro will be inducted into the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame this summer.
This latest class brings the number of hall of famers to 65. It will be increased to 100 to mark the 100th anniversary of the boys' state tournament in 2018.
Rascoe led Daviess County High School to the state tournament in 1957 and 1958, and he had 103 points in the 1958 Sweet Sixteen while suiting up from 1954-58.
Mason averaged 34 points and 15 rebounds as a senior, and she had more than 2,500 career points at Olmstead High School from 1977-81. She was named Miss Basketball as a senior in 1981. She was coached at OHS by Lugene Rogers
Rascoe lettered at WKU from 1960-62 and ranks 10th in Hilltopper history with 1,687 points scored in just three seasons and 81 games played. His scoring average of 20.8 points per game for his career is fourth-most in WKU history, and he helped the Hilltoppers to at least a share of the Ohio Valley Conference title in each of his three seasons on The Hill and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Mason finished her WKU career as the all-time leading scorer at WKU at the time with 2,262 points, and her career scoring average of 18.1 points per game ranked first in the WKU record books at the time. Mason was a three-time All-American, including becoming WKU's first Kodak All-American honoree in 1986. She led WKU to a 94-32 record in her career and two Final Four appearances. She was named Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Mideast Regional Tournament in 1985 and of the East Regional Tournament in 1986 while playing for Coach Paul Sanderford.
Mason was inducted as a charter member of the new Cougar Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame this year. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Mason of Russellvile.
The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 11 at the State Theater in Elizabethtown.
In 2014, WKU greats John Oldham and Crystal Kelly went into the Hall of Fame. Also in the Hall of Fame with WKU ties are Clem Haskins (2012), Clemette Haskins (2012), Jim McDaniels (2012) and Jamie Walz-Richey (2013).
