The Elizabethtown Spring Break Classic was anything but a frolic on the beach for the Logan County Cougars this weekend. Coach Ethan Meguiar’s team went into the event with a 9-2 record, but headed back south with three more losses.

Two of the losses were to host Elizabethtown. One was close with the Panthers winning 6-5. Cody Bridges homered in the first for the winners before EHS scored five runs in the third inning, making the Cougars play catch-up the rest of the way.

Logan’s Caleb Bruner went three for three with a double, walked and drove in two runs. Daniel Beaty doubled and singled, and Jackson Campbell, Luke Woodall and Tucker Baldwin singled. Campbell and Baldwin each drove in a run. Austin Rayno sacrificed while Michael Riley reached on two errors with Woodall, Mat Harper, and Campbell also reaching on errors.

Jordan Hendrix pitched the complete game, allowing nine hits but no walks while striking out four.

Graham Meeks was the starter and winner for Elizabethtown with Hunter Sullivan pitching the final two innings. Connor Kindred had two hits and Jack Wilson drove in two runs.

In an 8-3 loss to host E’town, Logan got eight hits, including two each by Riley and Matt Harper and a double by Bruner. Beaty, Woodall and Bradley Taylor each singled.  Beaty was credited with a lone RBI. Nick Wooden, Riley and Bruner scored the runs. Baldwin sacrificed successfully, and Woodall was hit by a pitch.

Harper was the starting and losing pitcher with Hunter Crafton getting the final two outs.

Kindred pitched six innings for the Panthers’ win. On offense he was joined by Zech Mauldin and Peyton Payne with two each of the 14 hits by Coach Don Pitts’ host team, which went 3-0 on the day.

Boone County’s Ethan Elmore shut out the Cougars 4-0 on a five-hitter in the other game.

Cougar pitcher Hunter Britt got two of those hits with the others by Woodall, Harper and Riley. Taylor sacrificed and reached on an error, Harper was hit by a pitch and Baldwin stole a base.

Britt gave up the four runs on five hits in five-plus innings. Ethan Smock got the final two outs in relief.

Treven Works and Russell each had two hits each for Coach Wayne Huff’s Rebels.

Logan County is scheduled to play an important district game against visiting Franklin-Simpson Tuesday, weather permitting.
