After losing 10 straight games, the Logan County Cougars have won four of their last six games, including three of four this weekend. Coach Michael Crawford’s team romped past Fort Campbell Friday and then won two of three in an event at Hart County Saturday.
Macy Meacham pitched a no-hit, no-walk shutout in the only two innings the game lasted in a 19-0 win over Fort Campbell Friday. Brea Croslin and Meacham both had three hits while Torrie Pollard and Meagan Ferguson added two each. One of Pollard’s hits was a double. Croslin and Pollard each drove in four runs, Ferguson three and Meacham two. Croslin, Hales and Pollard each scored three runs with Sieraa Morrow and Sydney Lee two each. Morrow, Rachel Barnett and Hales added a hit each.
The day at Hart County began with a disappointing 8-3 loss to Edmonson County. Ferguson pitched the entire game and none of the runs were earned with the Lady Cougars making seven errors. Ferguson gave up only five hits and a walk. She threw a first-pitch strike on 24 of the 33 batters she faced.
Pollard doubled in two of the three runs with Ferguson getting the other RBI. Lee, Croslin and Morrow picked up the other hits. Croslin, Meacham and Pollard scored the runs.
Rachel Duncan pitched the win. She gave up five hits—the same as Ferguson, but Coach Wyn Caudill’s Lady Cats made only three errors.
Logan got a dramatic 4-3 win over Breckinridge County. Hales scored the winning run in the seventh inning with two outs. She reached on an error, stole second and scored on Reagan Cole’s clutch hit.
The Lady Cougars had scored twice in the fifth when Pollard reached on a fielder’s choice, Ferguson walked, and Morrow singled them in.
Morrow, Cole and Lee each had two hits with Pollard and Barnett getting one each. Lee doubled, and Rosie Kerchenski was hit by a pitch. Hales, Croslin and Pollard each stole a base. Cole had two RBIs with Pollard and Morrow getting one each. Croslin, who walked twice, Pollard, Ferguson and Hales each scored a run.
Paige Jones pitched a complete game win. She allowed 11 hits but only walked one while striking out seven.
Logan crushed Fifth Region team Thomas Nelson 12-1. Ferguson went three for three with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Croslin and Pollard each had two hits and scored three runs. Morrow had two hits and two walks and drove in a pair of runs.
RBI honors went to Barnett, who had four, including a two-run single. Meacham, Lee and Kerchenski each had a hit, and Jordyn Belcher scored two runs.
Meacham pitched the five-inning win, giving up a run on five hits and six walks.
Alexa Hill had two hits and the RBI for Thomas Nelson. Taryn Robey took the loss on the mound.
Crawford told the Lady Cougars when the weekend was over: “Ladies, I am very proud of you and what you accomplished today. We played well once we got our bus legs under us. Looking forward to a great second half of the season.”
The Lady Cougars are scheduled to entertain district opponent Todd Central Tuesday. Despite the 12 losses, Logan is tied with Russellville (7-3) for the third most wins in the region.
Coach Brandy Trimble’s Lady Panthers played their first game since March 31 on Monday, falling 10-3 to Hopkinsville.
