Franklin-Simpson has won only eight softball games all season, but six of them have come in the 13th District, and Coach Matthew Wilhite’s team has the number one seed in the upcoming district tournament.
Meanwhile the Logan County Lady Cougars are deadlocked with the other three teams in the district, since they dropped one-sided games to both F-S and Todd Central recently.
Russellville, Logan and Todd each have two district wins, and they have each gone 1-1 with the other two, so tiebreakers will be necessary.
Franklin-Simpson 7, Lady Cougars 1
Madison Davis, the eighth grader whose Logan County roots include being the great-granddaughter of Bill and Nancy Gaines of Auburn, once again shut down the Lady Cougars. She allowed Logan one run on three hits and no walks.
Seventh grader Brea Croslin got two of the hits. Another seventh grader, Sydney Lee, picked up the other. Junior Torrie Pollard drove in Croslin with a sacrifice fly. Sophomore Macy Meacham successfully sacrificed.
Junior Meagan Ferguson, who always seems to get the ball on the mound in important games, took the loss. Only four of the runs were earned, since the Lady Cougars made four errors.
For F-S, Allie Pendleton, Cynthia Chaney and Allanah Fuller each had two hits with Macey Johnson and Kelsey Cline adding one each. Jessie Bellar and Fuller each scored two runs.
Todd Central 17, Lady Cougars 0
Todd was hot; Logan wasn’t ready to play, and the result was a disaster for the Lady Cougars.
Lady Rebel pitcher Tishe Lewis only gave up four hits, two to Ferguson and one each to Reagan Cole and Rosie Kerchenski. She didn’t walk anyone.
Todd took advantage of 10 hits and 6 walks off pitchers Ferguson and Paige Jones. Coach Michael Crawford’s team committed five errors.
Amy Brumfield had three each of hits and runs while driving in four. Michael Robertson, Taylor Williams and Lewis added two hits each for the Lady Rebels. Robertson added three RBIS and Williams two. Tara Walters and Robertson joined Brumfield in scoring three runs. Makayla Bilyeu also had a hit for Coach Leigh Bristow’s team.
