The Logan County High School Archery team recently finished their 2014-2015 season by competing in the NASP National Archery tournament that was held in Louisville at the Expo Center May 7-9. Twenty archers shot their flight in the NASP National Archery Tournament.
When the flight was over, the archers had shot their best score of the season, 3411. This score was enough to place LCHS fourth out of 192 high school teams in the nation. There were only five teams that shot over 3400 in the tournament and three of those five schools are from Kentucky.
In addition to qualifying to register for the NASP World Tournament as a team, three of the shooters—Kaitlyn Foster (shooting a 290), Taylor Hayley (shooting a 290), and Cheyenne Brown (shooting a 288)—qualified as individuals for the World Tournament.
Previously in the season, the team has had several other successes. On the way to Nationals, the Cougars shot a 3391 to win their NASP Regional tournament and then shot a 3343 to place 14th in the NASP State Tournament.
As a result of the Regional Tournament, LCHS had five female shooters in the top 100 in the state and one male to place in the top 100 in the state. April 18, Bethany Pearson, Christian Lynch, Cheyenne Brown, Kaitlyn Foster, Cori Taylor, and William Bagby traveled to Lexington to compete in the “Best of the Bluegrass” tournament.
KHSAA held a separate Regional and State Tournament this season. LCHS Archery placed third at the Regional Tournament. This was not enough for them to qualify for the KHSAA State Tournament; however, Cody Goodman won the KHSAA Regional Tournament with a score of 294, and he qualified for the KHSAA State Tournament as an individual. On April 23, Goodman traveled to Lexington as the only representative from Logan County High School. He shot a 293, which ranked him sixth out of 193 high school males shooting. He ranked ninth overall.
